The best was when my category was second worse for sick usage at the company. One guy on the bid tree said we need to try harder, second place is first loser. Always strive to be first.
Congratulations to the ATL 765 guys and gals.
The instructors really need to pull it together. You were so close. I expect better performance next year.

I think we all get that part. The cheerleading and rooting for 1st place most usage is comedic hyperbole that is being used to further illustrate the absurdity of the entire policy. It’s like holding a mirror up to management saying “can you see how ridiculous this is/you are?”
everyone gets offended by comedy or claims that just because they can’t understand it must be mean spirited or misguided. I don’t think anyone truly cares who has the most sick time usage, but it’s a hilarious joke that 765atl “wins” the clown game. Rooting for instructors to get it together is a follow-on hilarious joke that they almost got there, and maybe one more cancelled event (maybe even yours planetrain…!) could have clinched the win.
This thread has been one of the few entertaining things on here in months. it’s funny. Oh the misgendering thing was funny too- but for the same reason. It’s hilarious that an activist looking for a fight got shut down hard and the “best part of my day” comment that garnered a comment or few from those who don’t get funny… it was just that, hilarious! Everyone deserves dignity and respect. But that nonsense behavior was handled well and the joke about “best part of my day” is a comedic exaggeration about how it is refreshing to see an activist looking for a fight so well handled for once.
everyone show each other some grace, every individual. We all have different backgrounds and stories and people with whom we vehemently disagree can be treated still with respect. They are the ones that can teach us the most and help us to better understand the world around us- even if we never agree on anything. Most instances of misgendering are due to lack of awareness on an issue that for most humans is a fringe concept. Be gracious on both sides and stop pretending that everyone is out to get you. And keep laughing at yourself. If you can’t laugh at yourself it’s rude to laugh at others… //OffSoapBox.
By the way Planetrain, maybe I misread your comment “This is so twisted.” The greatest comedy IS, and I can see now that you were probably acknowledging the brilliance here. My mis-read, my bad! 😆

I read all of it as absurd-comedy. It’s a joke. It’s about playing a role as a comedic foil. The company’s policy rewards categories for not using sick leave. It’s in place as an incentive to help discourage “abuse” of the sick policy. But most of the group are high functioning adults who know when it’s appropriate to use sick time and when it’s not. Given that, the policy is on its face absurd and the unintended consequence is that the true incentive is for pilots to fly sick.

You can still call in sick and then get home. Just don’t trap someone else that close to you for 5 hours that is trying to work to provide for their family. You have no idea what health issues that their family may have, and what you give that person could put their loved ones in a bad spot.
Just don’t fly sick. Period.

Maybe our amount of overtime flying is much higher than average. Since they exclude all the IA/GS pay from the denominator, sick % could be higher?
In other words, 5 hours of sick on 85 hours of pay is 5.88%; 5 hours of sick on 70 hours pay and 15 hours GS pay is 7.14% sick. GS threshold is lower now.
14.K.4 formula
Sick pay/Non premium pay only = % sick pay
