23.G.5.d should control. Basically, the removed pilot should not increase the # of DH segments or hotel nights for the remaining pilot based upon the original rotations of the two original FOs. Also in the SRH.

There are a bunch of these scenarios. And it is astounding how many ways skeds can screw it up. Generally speaking on a multiday trip it would be the FO paired with the LCP. Generally.

So short answer is "as deliniated in the PWA," but practical reality is "the senior F/O" in my experience.

I had deep immersion in these scenarios when the 350 was a constant churn of OE and TOE. Qualifier: everyone on the same pairing configuration, most often. Senior F/O was outta there. Either way, somebody not the original two F/Os is sitting in the right seat 1/2 the time and for TO & Landing. So it was pretty clear that the top F/O was removed, most often after checking in, which sucked. But the truly senior (3 digit F/Os) were often walking to a different gate for some green action. #1 was building houses in all his spare time, and clocking big cash on the days he served Delta. Good work if you can get it!

If not released prior to sign-in, whether you personally "sign-in" or not, then yes, it would be illegal. Then again we have guys who love to reach out to scheduling and work their own reroutes sidetracking the PWA, so nothing would surprise me. Yes, I understand one is a CFR violation and one is likely only a PWA violation, but if you're willing to do one, you're like willing to do the other for a little extra coin.
