There’s also not a checklist holder on the dash, as it would get in the way of the mirrors needed to see the whisky compass that’s mirrored and located above and behind the FO.

When I was going through training on the 717 as a new hire, I honestly thought the instructor was screwing with me in the 200s about that.
My hill to die on is, if guys take the time to zero out the transponder after they land they should also take the millisecond to fold the checklist back so it's Preflight on the front instead of leaving it in the Shutdown fold.
I agree with this. Would also like to see us stop plugging the ship's headset back in. Probably 75% of the people I fly with have their own headset and if everyone just unplugged the headset they were using when done, there would be a lot less plugging and unplugging. Possibly even make the ship's headsets last longer without being handled as much.

Exactly.

It’s funny how Covid flipped that practice upside down. Before, there were pilots that would actually go to the effort of looking up your personal details on iCrew to message, or worse, call to berate the previous pilot for NOT plugging the ships set back in. Un-effing-believable.

Now, it’s 100% the opposite (except for the text/phone call BS). It’s just weird to find a ship set still plugged in. WTFIWWY?? 😂

Maybe on your fleet. I'd estimate that less than 10% of the FO's I fly with wear their own headsets. I still use the ship sets as well, just dissinfect them before I use them. I have a Bose and 2 x DC headsets at home, just don't care to carry them around with me on trips. Plus I used them in my plane/flying GA, so I hate moving them around becuase I always forget them lol.

Ladies/Gents,

So as to not further derail another thread withe checklist folding, and to have some fun with airing of greviences, I've moved this discussion to another thread. Please keep it fun and civil, but use this as a dumping grounds for inane things that bother you about how we do things.

I'll start with the 717 and the people who are too lazy to roll up the shades and put them back in the bag. If they're not up, I often find the shades strewn about on the ground or just jammed into the bag. Worse are the the people who are too lazy to put them up during the summer. Both these things take less than a minute and I still do them during my 35 min turn with a plane change.

The fact that an adult thinks finding someone on iCrew to berate them over the phone for a plugged headset is an acceptable response is proof that our psych eval system is flawed lol

Speaking of gear grinding, I like the quarter fold. I like to store it in a place where I can see the next checklist for most checklists so I don't even have to literally lift a finger. It really grinds LCP gears that I'm not physically picking up the checklist and holding it in my hand. Had one comment on it that I should at least pretend to read it to which we got in an argument over whether or not I could see all the words from where I was sitting.

Not that we ever get to keep the same plane anymore……but I long for the days of the thru flight checklist RP had back in the day. It was maybe 5-6 items.

agree. Ship’s headset 100% on my fleet. Actually never flown with anyone who brought one…including after Covid. I won’t look someone up for this on icrew😂, but plug the dumb thing back in. Plenty of people don’t want to carry a headset around

Ok now you’re grinding MY gears 😉

Maybe just pick it up like the rest of the world does it? There are some human factors benefits analogous to why we point at the FMA, FCU, etc. If I get interrupted mid checklist, maybe I’ll ask myself why I’m still holding it in my hand? I have had to ask an FO to actually read the checklist. I know you’re good. We all have it memorized. There’s a reason we do it this way. Slow is pro.

To add to the list, FO’s (not singling them out other than they run the radio on the ground) that speed switch to the next frequency while we’re still on/crossing an active runway. Even worse, before we’ve entered the runway. Contact ground “other side” is plenty fast enough. Maybe the tower guy or another airplane gives us a hint that I screwed up and somebody can save the situation. What’s the hurry?
