Making the hat optional is the only way to make it truly “commuter friendly”. As the older generation gives way to the younger in increasingly high levels of Flight Ops management, it’s only a matter of time before our outdated hat policy dies.

I’m actually of the opinion that Burns is a primary reason why there weren’t MORE changes to our uniform program this time around.

Obviously he signed off on the current GPS uniform program. But at his core, he’s a traditionalist. It was clear from reading his response to our uniform survey a couple years ago that he was resistant to any major changes to our “iconic” look.
He was also known to get angry and emotional when addressing hats during the “hats off” campaign.

I’m not disputing that he supported the GPS uniform program. I’m simply saying that the “new uniforms” are mostly just a lower-quality version of our old uniform program, without any major changes to the overall look or hat policy. That was PB-driven. With different leadership, the possibility of a more industry standard uniform policy exists here.

ive never met PB, but from his comms and what others have said about him, he always seemed like how ancman described…a hat guy and someone who liked our “iconic look”. And because of that our new uniforms really don’t differ that much from our old ones.
I think we have a much better chance of an optional hat or even a north face style jacket with BS than we did with PB.
