true, but what’s the harm in them parading how generous they are? The non-cons are more happy at work, probably do their jobs better, resulting in more profit sharing etc.

so long as they can’t touch it and the gravy train keeps going seems like a harmless state of affairs. Idk

This is also the first "big" PS payout since the pandemic (last year's 5% was more in line with other airline's regular PS payouts), and we've hired a TON of people since our last mega payout in 2020. So the company probably wants to set the tone for all these new people getting their first taste of true Delta PS. With so many people not knowing the history of PS they'll just eat whatever the company feeds them and believe it for years to come.

The harm is that this lie serves to set a narrative against organized labor. The company puts up those PS comparisons against our competitors in an effort to suppress unions on property.

We waited far to long and were dangerously low on cash. We were negotiating against both the company and the creditors. We had some pretty savvy union leadership that knew more cuts were coming one way or another. Since they felt the cuts were going to happen they pivoted to a demand for a cash note, equity in the company and a share in future profits. Airlines never made more than a 5 or 6% margin even in the good times so the PS didn't look to bad to the company and creditors. As the chapter 11 evolved we also got caught up in a hostile takeover attempt where the aquiring company upfront promised at a minimum to furlough 25% of our pilots and park the entire mad dog fleet. Times were not good!
Many on forums then said the equity and PS were and in the future would be worthless. The note was paid at 650 million. The equity was cashed out at 2.1 billion and Delta went from the worst airline around to the top of the industry, leading to unheard of profit sharing payments. Management can't stand the current PS program but it's a third rail they are afraid to touch! It's their Frankenstein and they own the monster.
We were one of the creditors. These are the only remidies in bankruptcy available to creditors who are tied to the success of the ongoing entity. The MEC didn't invent any remidies. The fact that they sold it as a unique tactic means they and the group were uneducated as to the options available. To then negotiate part of it away was stupid in an industry that must match wages to compete.
