Indeed we are facing a downturn. Prepare yourself. It’s gonna get rough. At the minimum you can expect moderate chop ahead. Mass pilot furloughs, downgrades, pay rates slashed by 70 percent at the majors, and pilots climbing over each other to snag that job flying a metro liner which looks like someone pulled out of a boneyard, which btw has no autopilot, no GPS, no air conditioning, no radar, tons of missing/chipped paint, and a ton of write ups that haven’t been addressed in weeks. Your boss at this outfit will be fresh out of the penitentiary, and he will be calling you asking why you haven’t departed yet, as you’re watching that squall line approach. Enjoy popcorn as your new meal of choice, because you will be clamoring for it in the FBO’s a lot. You won’t have enough money to buy food for yourself. This isn’t all that bad though. This should prepare you somewhat for when things go from moderate to severe, like standing in a bread line, with all the rest of us pilot pukes.
