Who is joking? Maybe a pullback, recession, etc... will help correct the current ridiculous housing prices.

The older I get and the more panicked headlines I'm exposed to, I remember this:

The news cycle and social media is designed to scare you. Because it brings you back.

Doomscrolling and gaslighting are real. War, climate catastrophe, energy exhaustion, pandemics..etc. etc.

"Wow, it was a great day and my job/family/401k are doing great!" will never be a headline.

(Always best to live beneath your means and have a 6-12 month reserve)

The last time we had a recession -- 2 consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth -- the media called it a non-recession because...reasons. Well, probably because of mid-term elections. I would expect the same this election season.

I agree with you and your assesment of the media. I also think post recession (or whatever label/definition) there will predictions of many more that will not materialize. I feel security in the fact that we will all go through it together and the cockroach nature of humanity will triumph once again. Some will fair better than others and the duration is unknown but adaptation has proven a formitable ally.
