That's right. I guess I selectively forgot that when I purged everything pre-DL.

Quote: FWIW all Jepp charts are drawn with vector graphics including the plates and aren’t PDFs
This is correct. If they were PDFs, the downloads for worldwide coverage would be in the range of 4-5 GB instead of 700-800 MB.

Is there a source for this? Functionally the plates behave like PDFs, not vector graphics.

I don't pay attention to the download sizes, but they don't download every plate every time, only the ones that changed.

Source: personal knowledge of Jeppesen operations.

But to not be a jerk:

”Jeppesen electronic charts are full-featured, vector- graphic charts for maximum readability and performance.”

Well you can create a PDF from a vector file, which I'm sure Jepp uses to actually create the plates, and that would make that statement technically still true.

Zoom in on any of the plates, it gets pixilated. Vector graphics don't do that (try the same thing on the enroute map as an example). Either the plates aren't vectors, or the software is doing it wrong, which is entirely possible.

Quote: Yeah, it was actually formatted for zooming and a digital display. I bet they're cheaper than jepps too.. but that's just a guess based on the bottom feeder regionals who used them.
Interesting to read how Lidos have become universally beloved. I left my crappy regional as they were transitioning, and it was unanimous the shade thrown at them, and how it had to be their cost, compared to Jeppesen, as to why they were chosen. So, imagine my surprise reading here how people now see it as the superior product.

I suppose I'll be happy either way, having had to use those hideous NOA charts in my formative years!

This is interesting, as they never used to produce a PDF unless you were trying to print them from their web interface. It appears to be just another thing they've integrated into ForeFlight and stopped developing for FD Pro X.

Somewhat on topic, COO Mike Spanos has been shown the door.
