I actually had a UA interview. Didn't go because I was just starting training at SWA (and our training is a meat grinder where you train for two months straight and have like two days off). Regardless, I won't commute long term and my wife and I just don't care for their bases at all. Delta's ATL or SLC, on the other hand, are quite enticing.
ATL: Peach Tree City. Just do it. You'll learn to love the golf cart lifestyle.
SLC: Holy moly, this place got expensive. Research "the inversion". It's a thing. Move outside it (which sadly means a longer drive). Otherwise, SLC rocks.

Commuting is [un-pins gernade, throws it down stairwell], suboptimal.

Reality is I don't even know if I could get an interview. A fellow APC'r says average Delta interviewee time is about 5000 hours. I figured a 737 type, 4 year degree, and a few thousand hours of 121 time would be enough, but maybe not. Delta was hiring a lot of SWA guys with a lot less time for a while, but maybe that's gone.

We are still interviewing and those in the pool is for the beginning of next year. You might have a chance since you are already in a major. You actually have better chance than someone from a regional.
But any day that passes that you don’t apply, you keep missing out. Once you have the CJO you’ll have plenty of time to decide.
good luck!

Haha, that's awesome. It's almost like listening to a politician speak. Put in your app and come on over if you get hired. You'll love it and should easily get ATL or SLC pretty quickly. Good luck!

he’s actually right about the upgrade time. This was an internal delta projection from last year. It’s not something they put on posters, but senior leadership was telling pilot hiring staff that in training. Anyone hired after 2025 should expect to sit in the right seat for 10 years
edit: I’m not saying it will come to be. But it was definitely said by people who meant it.

Upgrade time is going to be a while with the exception of a few outliers and even then you'll be a junior CA forever. It's still an amazing job either way but just come in with your eyes open to that. Being only 30 you have plenty of time.
I'd say apply and get a CJO and then you can decide. Until then keep doing your research. Your union probably has a contract comparison which would be helpful to see the differences between the two airlines.
