This is probably the generally correct answer.

But then if you fly a widebody that means you're gonna have a high likelihood of having to sit next to a guy for 5 hours at a time who commutes from BFE and drones on and on about how dangerous and expensive major cities are.

That doesn't sound any different than my NB experience!

Then they look at me like I'm a heretic for telli them I live 35 miles from Manhattan, cant see the neighbors and the most likely to cause me bodily harm thing is the bears.

Also those bears are the #1 cause of break ins here.

As if it wasn't bad enough that they want AI to take over our flying jobs, now it's infiltrated our message board?!

Is nothing sacred anymore...

Allow me to one-up you, if I may. I live in Manhattan. What terrifies me you may ask? Package thefts, yes. According to my local police precinct, that is where a lot of effort is allocated btw. So yes, my eyes do roll when I am told I live in a nuclear wasteland, by someone who won’t stop talking about the Gold Standard.

If you fly 3 pilot it's 3 hours on 2 of the 3 days thanks to crew swaps and rest breaks. As a bonus, half of your cruise time in the cockpit you don't even have a captain sharing boat, plane, house pics. It's just two FOs chillin... 4 pilot trips are a little different because you end up with 2 x 3 hour shifts each day you work. Overall it's still less time in a pressure tube.

Most of the intl commuters I run into don't live in BFE, but rather large cities with good air service to their DL base. It's the 2 hour "locals" living in a lake house or on a runway that are more likely to drone on about their watch collection.

What else are you going to talk about up front? It's not like you can talk about college sports with an Endeavor or Propel flow.

NYC makes zero sense to me. NYC7ERA is overstaffed, and yet they posted for 20 CA positions. Meanwhile, NYC320A has been understaffed since 2022 and they post 0 CA positions for months (years(?)) on end.

Another dozen are bidding out on the mid bid and ZERO backfills for NYC320A. There must me a planned drawdown in hours for NYC320 in the works. There's no way they can support current flying with that reduction. (I understand mid-bid is not final, but it usually shows backfills even if they don't make the final cut.)

EDIT: To add, looks like they did the same for NYC73NA. Zero openings posted, 10 bid out and zero backfills.

There's those of us that went to colleges without sports teams. That's the usual fall conversation.

"How's your school team gonna do"
"Undefeated since 1926"
"Wat?"
Then comes the yes, I actually went to college, no, not a CC or Riddle, yes, we seriously had no sports teams. Just intramural sports between clubs and fraternities. Just a small engineering school in the hood.

(Grad school, they are actually a FB powerhouse, but I did the bulk of that remote, so I'm not really a football fan of them)

I think I might have one tshirt from my actual undergrad school. A handful of shirts from parties/events at my fraternity.
