Default East Coast Storm

Wow - another storm in the northeast. Going to be very interesting tomorrow. I think this one kind of caught everyone off guard - it was not supposed to be that bad and now it looks like a blizzard. DAL is doing its best to catch up - hotels/Ubers in NYC and BOS but still showing a lot of flights going out tomorrow in JFK.

Stay safe folks.

PS - I know this doesn't really count since ATL is not affected but consider this a PSA.

AA hasn't even acknowledged the storm. The only message I've had so far is from the union reminding us of our contractual protections during IROPs. We're apparently using the 'fingers crossed' method of dealing with inclement weather.

After the way this illegal (MCT violations galore) trip went down, first they wouldn't release me from trip 18 hours out when they could have legally rebuily and re coveraged it, then gets better being denied boarding for a scheduled DH TWICE in MCO after getting RR'd in ATL with a trip that hit OT 5 hours out with multiple available SC pilots, that caused me to be flown back to not the airport of origin neither the scheduled (JFK) or the one I DDH'd from (EWR) AND because of the double denied boarding, it was after the trains stopped running either to home, or where my truck was (EWR), and they never scheduled Skyhop to get me back to JFK (buddy offered me his car to get home as he is in ATL for sims) I ended up having to have my wife drive to LGA then drive me to EWR then drive my truck home.

"You weren't here when I called you" (I was parking at gate next door. I got to gate when zone 3 was boarding) was Gate Agent #1s reason for denying boarding.

"We are oversold you cant possibly expect me to remove a paying customer" was Redcoat on denial #2

They can stew. All my slips are pulled.

CS can burn. I don't care anymore. If the company goes bankrupt. Oh ****ing well. I'm done caring.

I got home at 4am after a 1000 van, expecting a one leg to ATL and DH to EWR and done by 1700, home by 1830.

That’s exactly why I prefer commuting on other airlines. I’m usually treated better as an off-line jumpseater elsewhere than I am on a PS ticket on DL.

Most other airlines have a “take care of your fellow employees first” culture. The anti-union games that Delta management plays have resulted in a bizarre culture among the non-cons.

And the storm hasn’t even started… I’m supposed to be heading to New York at some point today, we’ll see.

A DH is positive space. As long as you are at the gate 30 minutes prior they can’t deny you boarding. I have had them deny me boarding when we could not make 30 prior for different reasons. I just called crew scheduling and let them know that the next flight segment was uncovered or went to the hotel and picked up an extra days pay. On two occasions I actually had crew scheduling bring the aircraft back to the gate and put us on. One was a scheduled DH and the other amazingly was commuting to work as a non rev. The non rev one I was called at the last minute for a GS. Told them I might be able to make a 3pm flight but it was iffy. They asked me to try as they had no one else. Arrived at the gate at 2:50 with the last few passengers heading down the jetway. Agent refused to board me. I really didn’t want this trip anyway so called crew tracking to tell them I would not make the flight. The tracker said it’s 2:55 and the flight has not pushed. I explained the agent would not board me. He said don’t go anywhere your getting on that flight. Agent came back out of the jetway as the aircraft was pushing. Said he would roll me to the next flight in 3 hours. As he is talking I see the tug pulling the aircraft back into the gate and the agents phone rang. It was station ops reaming him a new one for not putting me on the flight and now they were going to take a delay. Fun watching him try and explain why he didn’t!

Being a retiree seems exhausting when you constantly relive your "glory" days on an internet forum.

Well I actually came online to look at booking my 4th weeklong trip to the Caribbean to sail and dive in the last 3 months and to try and switch seats on my March vacation to Europe, Being retired is not all bad. I do concede a little PTSD about commuting to JFK in a major snowstorm. Strangely I never considered being an airline pilot a glory job. I guess you do however.

Well there is no being there 30 prior when every turn was scheduled under 30 in violation of the MCT.

CA and Duty Pilot had to get some fairly high ups in ACS to get MCO to actually board me.

"Go to hotel" wasnt really an option. Everything going to JFK and all but 1 LGA from MCO was already canceled today as the last flight to NY was boarding last night.

And you know, how dare I be home to help my family during a blizzard that's on my scheduled days off.

I absolutely agree with you on getting home to the family before a major weather event. Glad they made it happen for you.
