Dumb question

BubbleEyes2/HawgDude,
How long was it from the time you interviewed to the time Delta called with a training date?

Thanks in advance!

Guard Dude

Guard Dude,

It took one month to the day to get the call. Of note, I got tired of waiting (OK...maybe nervous is a better word:o ) and called the recruiting office "just to check on my status." I was told I was so far good to go. I got called by the scheduler later that same night offering me a class date. I TOTALLY doubt that the two are related, but....who knows for sure. At least in my case, giving them a jingle certainly didn't hurt things.

WhyFlare,

There were some reserve mil types, a couple of retired mil types, and a couple of civilian guys. Pretty much an even split.

Those of you who have interviewed, what did you do to prepare for the interview? I've read the gouge info. on WFFF, Airline Interviews, etc. Lots of good stuff there and on this thread. As a summary from what I have seen on the gouges, these seem to be the most recommended sources to study:

1. Mental Math for Pilots
2. Aerodynamics for Naval Aviators
3. Checklist for Success
4. FAR/AIM
5. ATP/FE Writtens

Some of those sources are pretty all encompassing and lengthy. Any areas of particular emphasis that will definitely be seen at the interview?
Is there anything else you would recommend particularly in regard to the written testing?

Thanks.

FW, I go in Tuesday! I have all those books you mentioned and have been comparing the gouge to the books just to hit on certain subjects!
I have a phone call to make tomorrow for some more info - I'll let you know how it goes. - BCD

Guard Dude,

It was about a month and a half before I got the call. But I was told at the interview if you really can't bear the wait (they said if you don't hear anything, that's a good thing), you can call to check on your status. I waited about 2 weeks, then caved and called to make sure I was "cleared to train." They gave me about 3 weeks notice for the actual date.

It's sort of a strange process, being congratulated on interview day with so many conditions yet to be checked off. And if you're like me, you just want the certainty. Good luck to all.

BTW, first day today. Nothing earth shattering that hasn't already been out there. Just a lot of encouragement and welcoming - a very nice way to spend a day.

BubbleEyes2/HawgDude,
Thanks for the heads up! Yeah, I only made it 2 weeks and 3 days before I called.

Thanks again,
GDude

Well, I didn't get the job. 8 of us went in on Tuesaday and by the time I was notified 1 was invited back for day two and another was not. I'm not sure about the other 5. 2 with military background and 6 without I believe. I will make this short and say the gouge is very accurate, what is most important is the 3 on 1 interview - know your own leadership and management styles and know your conflict resolution methods. I guess I didn't! Have Fun - I'll check back later to hear how the rest of you did! - BCD

BCDurbin,

Sorry to hear you didn't get the job. Thanks for the interview feedback!

The took six out of eight got it on Tuesday.
I will second the fact that you must know how you manage your flight deck and what you do with someone who is not playing well in the sand box. It is a straight forward interview. They are looking for good strong leaders that know their place. The are not looking for you to reinvent the wheel.
FWIW there are a lot more classes planned for the remainder of 07 and in to 08. The numbers will increase sharply in July and do not look for them to fall of anytime soon.
For anyone that has gotten hired, Congrats, you are getting in at a really good time. There will be a lot of people behind you later this year.

Have any newhires bid for and received SLC? Projections for holding SLC (any type)?

Guard Dude - if you don't mind I have some specific questions for a fellow Guardsmen. If you get a chance, please email me at [email protected].

Much thanks!
