I'm a half FULL glass kinda guy, but with the economy overshadowing everything....looks dim for hiring until 2014.
SD said if we passed the TA we would likely start hiring by the end of the year. I guess since we took the bait and they got what they wanted, no need to follow through with their end....

This last AE allowed them to thin out certain categories by not backfilling. It allowed some of the thru-put pressure to be taken off the training pipeline and from what I have heard. As a result, they may not need a large AE next time. This is also true because you only saw 191 RMA early outs. It allowed most to be absorbed by the fat in the system.

As for no Oct AE, well no backfilling means less bodies to move around. We will have one later this year though.

As for your comment. Its C, all of the above. Less bodies required combined with the ASM pulldown means no hiring. One meant no hiring until mid year and the next (economy) sounds like it means though summer 2013 push.

Wonder if the next great news will be that due to the AE on the wing cracks on the 717, we are looking at late 2013 early 2014 before they start arriving.....

Should have said later this year. Thanks for the catch. Point I was trying to make was that the 744 fleet is down three jets until early next year due to the lie flat mods. They can get away will thin staffing it. Prior to the early out, they were at my best guess about 25-30 A and B positions over staffed

The 717's already aren't arriving until late 2013...

I'll admit, my post last night was made under the influence and was more than a bit flamebaitey. Sorry about that. The basic point, that nobody should be surprised by stagnation after overwhelmingly approving a TA containing productivity givebacks (in a time of record profits!), stands.

So far as entitlement goes - I'm not in any particular hurry to get to DL given that I'm enjoying good QOL for the first time in my career and I know I'll be Jr for a long time over there. I didn't believe SD's "campaign promise" of fall hiring when he made it (did anyone really take him seriously!?) and always figured there'd be no flows until 3Q or 4Q 2013. I'm not whining about DL not hiring. I'll gladly go to another major if they start hiring before DL takes me. So where's the entitlement? Or is that shorthand for an outsider pointing out uncomfortable truths?

I'm glad you enjoy it over there. Why don't you stay. You insulted 2/3 of the pilot group at Delta, and I know the keyboard warriors here love your opinion. Really tough guys. But you won't spout off like that when you cross over.

This board has turned into bullying, so much so that anyone that disagrees can't even state his opinion. Good for you guys. Keep making up numbers and yelling into your echo chamber, I'm sure it makes you feel better. You know everything, and all the other highly educated, professional pilots don't know anything. You have all the answers and would do it better.

Junglebus. I hope you find a job at another airline, I want to work with people who want to be happy here.

Don't mistake guys wanting more and critiquing this or that as not being happy with their job. Most of the most vocal about wanting improvements also seem to enjoy their job the most as well. I know I do.
