What's up with all the FAs taking over the pilot crew room in JFK? I don't consider myself a grumpy old dude, but, Damn! Lately, whenever I go in there, they seem to have taken over the black chairs, tables and computers. There must be at least 3/4 in there all the time.

Their crew room is on the other side of security, so I think they use the pilot crew room to avoid going through security prior to checkin or departure.

JFK crew room is always relatively crowded in general. That and they need a bigger buffer between the bathrooms and the check-in computers.

Noticed the same thing. And it's not just the one-off, I'm-sleeping-with-him-and-he-swears-he's-leaving-his-wife-soon, kind. It's more of the snarling, hyenneas-are-taking-over-the-watering-hole-while-the-zebras-circle-helplessly, sort of a thing.

When they're having an entire crew doing a round-table lunch , we're pretty much the colonists, and they've pretty much got us over in the cooling tower, down in Level 2.

This will end badly.

The third quarter should give us a hint at (hopefully great )things to come.

Ask yourself this question, if DALPA had held the line on scope would you have gotten the flight time to get hired here in the first place? I'm all for us taking it back, but I find it ironic that the guys who benefited the most from the scope sale attack it the hardest when they finally get here. You were held hostage for eight years, did you feel like you should have only served 3 years, 1 year?

I got hired in 2001 at Skywest. I was hired as a Brasilia first officer. Skywest had very few RJ's. I upgraded in just about 1 1/2 years. But then I stagnated in the left seat for seven years while I waited for Delta and the other majors to take all of their furloughs back and start hiring. Where do you think I would have rather spent that seven years of my career? Mainline or Skywest? If mainline had kept more flying, there'd be shorter time spent at the regionals. More movement where the money is. Just look at the late 90's. Most guys weren't spending almost 10 years at commuter airlines before getting on with the majors. Commuters/regionals were more of a stepping stone than they are now. We've done this to ourselves by caving on scope and allowing management to farm so much flying out.

Oh... and by the way... I was flying with a Captain a couple months ago and we were discussing scope. My opinion is that if the plane has Delta paint on it, then the plane should have Delta pilots up front. I even had this opinion when I was at Skywest. His response was, "But I don't want to fly RJ's." There's the crux of the problem. This is the same guy who, a couple years from now, will say, "Dang R.J.'s!" Well, they only exist because we allow them.
