I can't really offer any insight since I haven't been on reserve for quite awhile but, I think the smaller the base, the more it seems to be equitable. Junior CA's I fly with seem pretty happy. Senior guys, not so much.
I do think that scheduling still has way too much leeway in how they assign SC, slips, etc. It def needs to be more transparent.

I've been the senior guy on reserve with the highest Raw score. The buckets do tend to help the senior guys, as they should, but the random nature of the whole process has a way of leveling everything.
Whenever the conversation goes to how unfair the new reserve system is I check out the Raw scores in various categories and just don't see it.
I think the system is pretty good. As far as no long calls and flying every day - its August!
Standing by for incoming. Fire away!

Definately agree. All I want is transparency. Not working and getting paid is nice but if I need to go to work thats cool. Just want to kinda be able to see it coming.
It isn't bad on the 9 don't get me wrong. 3 short calls and 4 days of flying this month. However those 3 shortcalls completely caught me by surprise.
I do like the new bucket system for longcall though. Keeps me at home a lot.

I think the new reserve system is a vast improvement over the way things were being done before. I can't imagine thinking otherwise.
Yes, junior guys are going to work more than senior guys. But I think a lot of it is luck. Some days, no one gets used on short call. Other days, several short call assignments go out. Did you just happen to have a short call that day?
I think the buckets should be tweaked depending on the month. In the summer, 80 seemed to work OK. However in the fall or off-season months, it may take longer for guys to get to a raw of 80. In other words, bump it down to 60 in the off-months.

As a 2010 hire, I did two weeks of indoctrination training in ATL followed by A320 training in NATCO at MSP. Every Capt asks me "Are you former Northwest or former Delta?", and I have to respond, "We were hired after the 2008 merger."...then confused silence ensues.
Finally the Capt says, "We hired pilots in 2010???"

Yes, this would be a good thing.
I flew with a capt last month who was adamant that Southwest were represented by ALPA. Both me and the jumpseat guy tried convincing him that they had their own in house union, SWAPA, but I don't think he really believed it. He was pointing to them as evidence of ALPA doing good stuff lol. He was a good guy and it was a fun trip, but it's indicative of how little some guys know about what's going on in this job.
