I don't think anyone believed him.

Just needed the yes votes.

As to your physicists sex joke... keep it simple. Like a good Jeff Foxworthy joke: Buying a used rental car is kind of like going to a house of ill repute looking for a wife. Anything that's been driven that hard by that many people, you really don't want to put your key in it.

Simply amazing how out of sync they were with themselves when the TA vote was at stake
With regards to retirements, didn't the T&G show the cummulative retirements, both with or without the TA, as nuetral? IOW, we'd have the same number retirements through 2016 with or without the TA.

Your correct however that was based on the oldest pilots taking the RMA. Since that did not happen we will now actually have more retirements by 2016 since many of the pilots who took the RMA were scheduled to leave in the 2016 to 18 timeframe. By 2018 the number is the just about the same.

Yes, that's the way I see it. Having a 55 year old retire brings more value than four 64 year olds.

Overall, I think we did better than I expected given the age of many of the ER pilots.

All is not lost however. I have a investment deal for you. Send me 10 grand. I will make you some money, If there is no economic downturn, unanticipated event, I execute my trading plan then I might make a profit for you as early as next Spring. Are you in?
All very true, but yet not a peep of criticism about the company's method of wooing some yes votes out of people with this ploy? You're right, it did have a lot of outs for SD to back away from it (heck, he doesn't even have to do that; it's just never mentioned again). So forgive me if I didn't buy the other propaganda being thrown my way about the TA like it creating a need for pilots, how scope was improved, etc., etc., etc.

That statement was filled with a bunch qualifiers. Whomever took that to mean definite hiring needs to buy some beachfront property in AZ.

I don't think anyone took it to be definite due to the qualifiers... however it was certainly a very low way of trying to get votes for the TA.

Shack. It certainly didn't add to SD's credibility, and it's a helluva long way from "good faith".
