ALK is only in play if someone else seems ready to make a move, read AMR. But, AMR can't even get out of their own way, with the creditors becoming impatient.
It's hard to make a statement that hiring might happen this winter after the recent memo/roadshow barrage to the (possible) contrary, but I agree with you, I think we will hire this winter too.

I was told by a captain (great guy, and a pleasure to fly with) recently that I'd (seniority11,000+) have a seniority number in the 3000s in 9 years. I politely explained what it would take for that to happen. I think even some left seaters have heard the cheering so much they've bought into it.

Staffing is driven by the worst case reserve needs for Jul and Aug. We let them modify the days, and boost reserve ute from 68 hours to a potential 100ish, almost a 50% increase in utilization efficiency for our reserves... 20% of 11,500 is 2300 pilots; 50% increase in efficency of that group during Jul/aug is 1250 pilots.

That's what we bought with the TA, 1250 less pilots via reserve increase. Oh, of course reduced by the nebulous on no-data-to-support bogus claims of vacation, reserve now full, known absences count horse cr*p. I don't believe any of those claims, there has been no data given to support it... NONE of those gains matter in the slightest except for two critical months that drive hiring, Jul/Aug, and if you modify the "offset" claims to the months they actually have an effect, the impact of these offsets is minimal and no where near a full offset. And any pointing to a reserve hiring formula with 60 hours average use is likewise foolish misdirection as the non-factor months Sep thru May drive the average constantly below the hiring trigger--the hiring algorithm is hopelessly skewed to the point of being meaningless. My opinion without supporting data is at least as commanding as all the opposing opinions without supporting data.

And before all the TA cheerleaders channeling Bill Lumberg jump in, please... it's possible for someone to criticize one single aspect of the ta as being less than optimal without you demanding they "show me a better contract" etc... Show a little intellectual integrity and admit that this one area of the TA absolutely suckith, no matter WHAT mitigating other factors you perceive may exist.

+ BBar, +FrmFrtDog, -76drvr, -slowplay. And I'm starting to think Johnso is either running for office or his kid brother has taken over his account lately...
How many others were also told the fall AE would be HUGE? That's what I got from a DALPA member in the know when I was being told how the TA (reserve work rules part) would not result in a need for fewer pilots. Again, why did we even give up QOL issues in the TA when THEY CAME TO US????? Sad.

EDIT: Rhetorical Question. We all know the answer: Get what you can and let the juniors (in each category) pay for it.

Where is the implementation schedule for the new contract posted? I'm trying to find when the slight increase in vacation pay kicks in.

Thanks

Isn't every upcoming AE the MOAB's? I always hear that.

Thanks

It will be effective with the next vacation year. If I remember right, the vacation year runs from April thru March.

I think the only reason I could read that was because of ACL's posts. He has enough auto-correct fails that one becomes used to deciphering what he meant.

I mostly lurk here but this reminded me of something I heard recently. A sitting LEC rep was scheduled for an initial qualification training on a new airplane later this month and got pulled off of it due to "alpa work".

Heyas Bar,

They need to defend it because the same process is going to be used for the FT/DT spin when that LOA is floated.

Plus it's politically embarrassing when you spend a lot of time and effort trying to spin the fact that your work rules concessions arn't going to cause 300 surplus pilots, when it's pretty obvious that it will, and then have management come out and say "yea, the new rules gave us a 300 pilot surplus".

That complicates the spin control down the road.

We went from a big AE for the RMA, and when that didn't happen, it morphed into a little one followed by a "big one in October", which has now been downsized into "backfill and cleanup", and now we"re hearing that some categories are fat, and more displacements could be in the works.

How much more "good news" is on the way?

So in your world the "right" answer was to turn down the June 29 deal. You'd now be negotiating in an environment where AMR has 88 seat RJ scope (only using 79 seats at this time) imposed by the court. Nice.

You assert that the B717 were coming anyway, even though Delta management and ALPA told you there was a plan B. Isn't it strange that a Delta competitor "found" about half the number of used amall narrowbodies on the open market just a few short weeks after the TA was ratified. Or how about the capacity math that doesn't work for delivery of all 88 B717s without the deal? You trying to "sucker" somebody?
To Johnson's question as to why we rehash how we were sold a bill of goods on the TA that hasn't materialized in the timely fashion we were said would? ^^^THIS^^^ Some people still don't realize how DALPA and the company said DO THIS and GET THIS, yet it didn't work out that way, and when it finally does it will be on the timeline we expected it to originally. My hope is some will to a degree see that the suggested rewards for following the pied piper weren't what they were cracked up to be, and maybe, just maybe they'll think back to this TA when the next contract comes up. Not that it'll matter much; I mean they can't really get any more productivity out of reserves can they? Wait, forget I asked that...don't want anyone starting to work on more "what can we give" options to get another 3% COLA, any sooner than necessary.
