Previous airline in a previous life we had the ACARS run off the doors closed and parking brake off which required the jetway to be pulled and someone to be sitting on the tug to obviously keep the plane from rolling. When the beacon came on it told rampers we were pushing or starting an engine, which is how it should be. The NAV lights signify power on an airplane and the beacon means the airplane is pushing/starting engines and taxi light means its moving under its own power.

Now, in the real world releasing the brake didn't work even when you could get the doors closed on time. So some genius figured out that the ACARS was actually tripped off the parking brake light on the panel and not something internal or in the EICAS. So, if got the doors closed and pulled the parking brake light CB (and then reset it) then the ACARS tripped out and you never had to release the brake.

Now if you see an airplane rolling with no nav lights, no beacon, no taxi light and no tug then watch out.

DAL wants to change the ocean crossing procedures every other week...fine.

He turns on the beacon - I turn on the beacon....whatever.

All I know is come 2012 they better be ready to give some of these "synergies" back 'till it hurts. I don't want to put us under, but I've got a no vote ready to go until they convince me otherwise.

I will say one thing I don't like is moving the special pages, or as DAL south calls 'em "green pages" back to 10-7. I liked 'em much better up at 10-0. Those are the first pages I want to look at and it makes it easier to find the airport because you can visually see where it starts.

My $.02
Right on, Jay. I thought I was the only one who doesn't like the new location of the green pages...but my f/o told me on the way in here last night that he still puts them up front.

"Whatever" sums up most of my thoughts here lately...I don't (try) to get worked up about much...not worth getting upset over since I can't change a thing. Flying through DTW this trip just leaves me shaking my head (no offense to any DTW bubbas reading this...).

2012 - hope you're right...how's the "Takin' it back" campaign going for us so far?!

One way to look at the location of the 10-7 is that its now next to the 10-9 so that when you are going into places like DTW, ATL, DFW and so forth you don't have to flip through 40 pages of arrival and departure procedures to reference it real quick. Otherwise, its a bit unsettling to me not having it first but so be it.

...
ACL, was the rollover of frequent flier miles a part of the good news for us that you'd been hearing about?

I was just in the schoolhouse last week and we were told by someone who is in charge that the out-time will be changed to the first brake release after the last door is closed. That is the way it is now on the NW jets. They (NW jets) are being changed to the beacon deal for now but ALL the jets will go to the brake thing soon.

Also, the 757-300's have the money approved for winglet installation and that too will begin soon. He said that those a/c will almost certainly lose Hawaii and be used more for domestic long hauls.

As far as going thru DTW and it not being too smooth of an operation, those are DL people working those flights right now. They are spread pretty thin (ops out of A & B concourses) so MAYBE things things will smooth out when all ops are combined.

Ahhh, the good old COEX days. At least with the time tied to the brake release there was a safety reason for not releasing the brake until everything was hooked up and ready. With the time tied to the beacon, flip the switch and get the pay clock going, it's not dangerous to have the beacon flashing early is it? I'm sure that the trigger on the Delta aircraft will also be something with a circuit breaker. A mechanical switch that detects brake release is alot of cash for all the airplanes while a simple current switch tied to a light of some sort is a fairly cheap.

What about gate arrival? Does system logic look at both brake and door position or just one or the other. How many times have we all sat waiting for jetway drivers or 'chock in' signals?

Looks at both-sit and wait for jetway for 10-15 mins, just reset brake before door is opened and we are on clock the whole time.

It looks at the last time the brakes were set prior to the door being opened.
