Hope so. But if they were DL people working us, they're now wearing bluejeans and old, dirty Northwest hats. Also, not quite sure why hooking up external air and power is such a challenge...haven't we been on this campaign for a couple of years now?

D-south is tied to beacon off or first door opened, whichever is first. Most guys wait for the door to open before turning off beacon. At least domestically.

Remember we kept pulling that breaker so much that they were getting wear and tear on it? I think I was gone before they started enforcing the no CB can be pulled ever without maintenance permission or something like that. From what I understand now with the Ejets you've got to go dig with your mouse on a computer screen to find the breaker you want to pull, all monitored of course and ruining the fun.

As to Delta, this is only how I understand it: they will only pay us when the plane is starting push back and as a seperate issue they only want the beacon on when the plane is pushing back because they're supposedly teaching everyone operating on the ramp that when the beacon is on the plane is about to move so don't walk/drive/skip/lay down/etc behind it. So the beacon got tied to the OUT time. But nowadays nobody sees a running beacon as a sign the plane is about to move, not a good thing when it comes to ramp safety.

The other issue is gate agents. When you see a good agent work their butt off to get the flight turned and you want to get them the out time but that requires breaking the rules. I think gate agents should be able to call in when the door is closed and be free of culpability from there. Just a thought.

As to our pay, and this is a moo point until 2012, I think we should start getting paid whenever the NTSB (830) finds us responsible: Aircraft accident means an occurrence associated with the operation of an aircraft which takes place between the time any person boards the aircraft with the intention of flight and all such persons have disembarked, and in which any person suffers death or serious injury, or in which the aircraft receives substantial damage. Just remember when saying goodbye that when you say "thanks for flying with us, becareful its wet out there," means you just knowingly allowed a trial lawyers client to walk into a knowingly dangerous situation and when you're sitting in court you get to think about how that all happend when you weren't even being paid.

Just,

You are right, it is tied to either the door or the beacon on arrival at the gate. When departing, out time is tied to all doors closed and beacon on. Why can't they just deactivate the beacon part and tie it all in to door closure? Sounds simple to me but I must not have the "big picture!"

Denny

PS: Forgot to bid, I like your idea too!!

Forgot To Bid,
I am all for that, however, when was the last time you were running late and boarded a fully loaded plane waiting for you to preflight? I have always been a fan of beacon on anytime the plane moves, even if it is 6 inches to remove a wedged chock while waiting for ramp tower to get back to me.

Jughead,

Did you just check out in the left seat? (I thought you were a 7er B out of NYC) If so, congratulations.
