What is your take on Qatar, or Emirates, and their plans for growth. Part of the reason I didn't jump is the impression they are inflating a bubble with unsustainable growth. However, I've not dug into their margins, or load factors as they expand.

Informally, a surprising number of international travelers I've spoken with recently have mentioned either having traveled on, or were anticipating their first trips on Qatar. Does the competitive advantage these carriers enjoy as a result of their quasi government sponsorship make them unstoppable, or is their trajectory more likely to the Indian carriers that were growing so quickly just a couple of years ago?

They are going after soft targets like Air Berlin that has 5th Freedom Rights. I suspect you will see them try to branch out from just the ME hub and spoke system. They have the money and governmental backing. Even if their bubble does pop some day, the current trajectory leads to many headaches for us and the European carriers in the meantime. Best way to fight them is legislatively; ala make sure foreign ownership rules are always under the majority control(all foreign ownership not just one party), and cabotage is a national security issue as well as a jobs issue. I think it shows that we do a little more than just hit the FLY button, though I think we could have found a couple of pilots who were a little less 'soft' in the middle.

In any case, I just can't get that up in arms about this. ESPN just did a similar commercial with the FLY and LAND button and I thought that was funny too. Stange that many of the same people who hate the 'Hat' and want to wear jeans to work suddenly care so much about how passengers view us (...and yes, I do wear the hat, shine my shoes, iron my shirt every night, etc....)
We're supposed to wear our jackets to the simulators now?

We should petition to move away from the Navy uniform towards the Starfleet Uniform.

We can color code what airplane you fly and we'll make sure it's super tight.

I know this is asked every time a new AE comes out, but can't find the answer.

When you bid a percentage is that from top to bottom? So if you want to be in the top 60% you would use 60%? Or in other words if the category has 100 pilots and you want to be at least in the top 60 you would use 60%?

Also, if you want to be a lineholder you would put a Y. Is this also based on a percentage?

Thanks.

The way I understand it is that the # you enter is the lowest % you're willing to accept. So if you input 60%, you're telling them you do NOT want that category if you're LOWER then 60% in category.

I'm not sure about your second question. I know in general 75% is a safe bottom line % to hold a line. There are exceptions though. When MSP M88 first opened I believe it was well over a year before anyone below 50% could hold a line. I believe 75% in the ATL 320B will NOT hold a line either.

You haven't been?

Oh right, the MadDog. You can wear whatever you want in the MadDog sim.

I think there's a movie coming out this weekend about your latest CQ:

Anyone else having problems logging into that ALPA SMRA site? Every time I've tried I get the message "an error occurred. SMRA module is not available right now."
