Maybe I'm the only one making a big deal about this, and maybe 6 days isn't a lot of time for DALPA to get off its duff and realize that mgmt just stepped over a big red line and basically flipped the bird to our contract as they unilaterally draft us as unpaid assistant gate agents. No thank you very much!
Really just 2 ways to deal with something like this. Ignore it, and accept the consequences, or tell our union to kindly inquire as to why they were left out of the loop on the latest significant change to our working conditions.

A few weeks ago the weather in XXX went down and the airport was doing construction which disabled the sole ILS. In that case, the Captain's explanation about the delay and eventual cancellation was magnitudes better than the Gate Agent could have given. His PA included the weather required for our dispatch, so the more technically oriented passengers could monitor the situation in real time. They knew we needed visibility of at least 1 and 1/2.

No, you can buy yourself a controlling interest in HA and install yourself as #1 on the seniority list. After all, it would be YOUR airline.

It looks like more of a guideline than a rule, at least for now. It would be a non flying duty, kind of like saying good bye to the pax as they deplane.
SHOULD- The word “should” is used to indicate that compliance is
expected. Deviations are permitted only where an operational requirement
exists.
So either do it or you're deliberately violating the FOM.
I'm all for going the extra mile, even making gate PAs. Teamwork. But once you make this POLICY, now its a whole different animal.

There is a will and should...not a guideline...do the pax really want a pa every 7 minutes?

Yep, the old guideline vs a rule issues raises its ugly head once again:

that's an idea. but i think a start up is better. one that is ULCC but with all of the frills of a foreign legacy, except the frills are paid for via advertising on the outside and inside of the plane... and you pay some... and we use secondary airports without all of the delays!!!! like St Augustine instead of Jacksonville, Lakeland instead of Orlando, that little airport with the runway and no facilities you always see on the Erlin- instead of ATL, Toledo instead of Detroit, Scranton instead of New York, Springfield instead of Chicago, Chico instead of SFO, Bakersfield instead of LAX, Abilene instead of Dallas, Cheyenne instead of DEN.
Should work out great.

Sign in for trip in the A concourse lounge in ATL. Flight departs out of C53 but the plane is delayed and will be arriving an hour late.
New FOM policy requires me to go to the gate and spend an hour making PAs every 15 minutes instead of relaxing in the lounge for the extra hour.
In a word, NO.
