By 'in play' do you mean, open as a pilot base?
As soon as the NW/DL merger was announced, most of us said they would close MEM and CVG. With ATL and DTW, do they really need bases between those two?
Don't get me wrong, I wish all the small bases were still open, I've been commuting to ATL for 16 years now. I started in MIA, then went to BOS and at one time was based in CVG. All the smaller bases were much more fun, and better places to live, no doubt. But you know the bean counters are going to try to save money at every opportunity, closing CVG is probably their next move.
At one time there was a guy named David Watson who was in charge of pilot staffing. At a base meeting in MCO (when we had a base in MCO!) he was talking about reserves required. He said the average reserve pilot flew less than 35 hours per month. He said, "If it were up to me, there would only be ONE base, ATL, and every reserve would fly at least 70 hours, that's what we are paying them."
He's not in charge of pilot staffing any more, they moved him to the Flight Attendant side of the house!

Had a friend on a flight yesterday that was to leave LGA at 430. A A320. Had a mtc issue. Looked it up, and yep, it was a must fix item. Part was coming from BOS. Lots o weather, and the result was the pilots timed out at 0130Z. They told the pax that they had a new crew etc. Waited, waited, waited. Boarded up at 2345. At 0000, they realized the flight was never re-crewed w/pilots. CNXed. No hotel rooms left. TSA shuts down the airport, so it was baggage claim or find a hotel on their own. 400 bucks later they found a hotel.
Flight was full, and there was no where for any of them to find lodging near LGA.
Not a good day to be in LGA.

Well, I meant CVG as a "hub" if it is even a hub these days. Now that Comair is gone, and Delta is citing the economy etc.etc., I can only imagine that CVG is the next big thing on the chomping block.
Delta Announces Additional August Cuts - Memphis Daily News
Very true, but they Have already announced there are no cuts to flights in CVG due to the Comair cuts.

It would not be a good day in any base in the system with the weather they had. Huge line of T storms. Winds at both LGA and JFK reported as high as 47 knots.

But that's what happens when one morning you're driving home from work at 3am and the next morning you're driving to work at 4am.
There is one simple solution to LGA.... Dash 8s! ON FLOATS!
