If the Comair planes come to Pinnacle so will the Comair pilots.
I was thinking about this the last few days, and wondered if they are shutting OH down now so that they can acquire 9E in CH11. End result would be no need to swap 70's for 50's and effectively have no CPA with 9E. Allows them to reduce the DCI footprint without redoing the SKW/EV CPA's. Shut down OH now so that early next year they can buy 9E and start the reduction.
*The 70's that would be used to do the purported agreed to swap out in the 9E CH11 CPA (*AWST) would be from SKW and EV. If they (SKW Holdings) are unwilling to redo their CPA's, they will not have jets that they can swap out with 9E. The 76 seat airframes need to be used elsewhere so this one-two may be the work around they have come up with.
Just a random thought.

Another reason is to be cleaning up their balance sheet and taking goodwill write-offs now in the preparation for a acquisition/merger that may or may not include a wholly owned subsidiary. Solves possible integration issues down the road as well.
Mesaba,
Becoming an "exclusive" DCI carrier would lead credence to becoming wholly owned though.
*Also note when Colgan is being shut down, and the expeditious manner they are being parked as well.

Whatever is happening, its happening at an alarming pace. Like ACL65 said, the acceleration of the Q's, management leaving the negotiating table and not starting up again, and the Shut Down of Comair. I myself about less than a year ago did not see that bad of news coming for pinnacle but now it becomes real seeing comair shut down.
Also I believe they just pushed back our deadline to exit bankruptcy with the DIP financing to January of 2013 for final approval. I believe that is 3 months later than it was.

The 717's will not arrive for nearly a year. The CRJ900's to follow. In the mean time we are pulling down the reach of the DCI system and thus, the Delta network.
Events of the last couple of weeks suggest the plan for New York needs a serious re-think due to ATC limitations.

?...just merger prep...or the wicked all dooming recessionary travel environment?
So, any bets on how long CVG remains in play?

But yes the Delta network as a whole will see an immediate reduction in ASMs assuming the comair 50s are parked on 9/30. I didn't see anything about further capacity reductions this year in the Q2 reports however. Not sure how that plays out.
