Didn't mean for this to become a uniform wear issue... but word has it you'll be sent home if you're not wearing it properly next year. Recently heard about a guy called in for no name tag on his shirt. Times are a changing folks, and if we aren't proactive, it's going to get a lot more challenging just doing our jobs. Get involved and speak up to your reps, they are the ones who need to take the initiative on our behalf.

Ok so you guys got me wondering so I went to look at the projected list from the last AE just to see if something changed. I'll use myself as the example.
Most junior category by percent in the company and where I as a september 2010 hire fell (could be diffent for diffent ppl depending on where you fell in the list)
1. ATL DC9B 61%
2. NYC M88B 77%
3. DTW DC9B 89%
4. NYC 7ERB 93%
5. NYC 73NB 94%
So I guess the 73N is still more senior than the 7ER in some bases

I'm already tired of the uniform standards talk. Wear your dang uniform and don't look like a slob. We're not in high school trying to rebel anymore.

WRT the uniform, the language is pretty clear, and the only question is the expense. I don't think it would be inappropriate for my reps to express support for an investment in uniforms, just as we invest in the fleet. This would make a great starting point for talking about areas in which we subsidize our jobs, as well as a great point from which to end such subsidies.
WRT additional duties outside the aircraft, and outside our normal duties, I would say it sets a bad precedent for us to allow the company to add items that are not included in our contract, via the FOM. I think the contract spells out how early we need to report, for the purpose of preflight duties. This is a passenger handling duty.
Personally, I like helping, and making the passengers' experience more predictable, andless stressfull. I just want to be asked to do items not covered in my contract, and compensated accordingly. And I would like my union to articulate this viewpoint.
Is that so wrong?

^^^^^ This
What other employee group's job is next to be added to our duties?? This is bad precedence and I as well hope the union is looking into this. Not to mention every 15 minutes is a tad over the top.
From PilotFrog:
My question is if the gate agents will know this policy change and complain to their bosses every time a pilot isn't around to take the blame for the delays. If they find out they can pass the buck like that I am sure it will be brought up all the time.
"Hey! Why weren't you around 45 mins ago when we first learned of the delay to appease all these irate passengers! Aren't you required to do that now? I'm writing you up!"
