Manually via DBMS, I have no idea. Sorry

This is a great system if we had actual seniority advancement...
Maybe a few years from now I can be the "senior" reserve FO ;-)

Without vacation you don't normally pull Mon-Thu reserve only. You're going to do a 5 day stint to get the 17-18 or so days of reserve in. Unless you do a day on an odd ball week.

From what I see they're assigning about 14-15 SCs per weekday in my category. Heck, 17 of the first 18 guys tomorrow are on SC and the one that isn't has 6 SCs. But, for those who have 0 SCs, they still have 0 SCs tomorrow.

Anyways, we had about 8 Mondays and Tuesdays, that's about 100-110 SCs assigned to about the same 20-40 guys.

I don't see how someone ends up with 0.

I get what you're saying as far as it depends on when you put your days but looking at today's list, I just think the system is flawed. Not saying the guys with 0 SCs are buying pizza for the schedulers, not at all, I'm just saying it's a flawed system.

?

This week the "computer" only assigned SC to 4 day guys until there weren't enough. 3 day guys never touched.

So wait? Now a computer definitely assigns SC? When did this change? Last time I paid a visit to scheduling(about 1 yr ago) the actual person assigned SCs. Now a computer does it? What criteria does it use?

The way the world works is something like this: To know the true computer code used for assigning short calls, you need to be one of the programmers. I volunteered since I have a masters in computer simulation and modelling. Once I got there with the programming team, I pretty much just drank beer and hit on chicks. Then the team leader got progressively more POed with me so I said, okay, I'll work. So I wrote in my line of code with a replicator. All it said was "no shortcall for Scambo." Johnso, you need to volunteer for stuff.

Sorry, but that's just not right...give a guy a 6th SC for the month because he's a 3-day availability pilot when there are 4-day+ pilots in the hopper with ZERO SCs & ZERO raw?! Computer or no computer, that's going a bit far with the seniority rationale. I as much as anyone look forward to greater seniority someday so that I too may enjoy the benefits that accompany that status, but I think that's taking it entirely too far.

I really like the reserve system (full disclosure - when I bid reserve I am one of the more senior guys) but I think it could still use some improvements.

Perhaps somehow combining the RAW/Short Call buckets. Obviously it would try to do this first and if unable it could revert to the current system. This way what happened to George above would only happen as a last resort.

As far as the junior guys working all the weekends and flying more, don't you guys think the more junior line-holders work all the weekends and Holidays?

Vacation makes it even harder to set up a good reserve schedule (4 day stints). I guess you could make an argument for breaking up your vacation to make this happen, but then well, it's not truly "vacation" any longer.

Bottom Line: the pro rated table of X days needs some serious tinkering. I'm confident we'll get it in the next contract.
