You and George need to get together and connect some dots IMO.
:D That would probably require a large supply of liquor. It's nothing that hasn't already been discussed ad nauseum here, but it does seem as if Alaska is becoming unmanageable in terms of their long term benefit to our company. What I mean is if they are feeding our hub at SEA, great... but if at the same time they're helping AA beat us up at LAX and Emirates get a strong foothold at our SEA hub, then it would seem it's time to do something about it. |

I remember it well, I thought one other very good names was; Swine Flew But the Lounge Nazis cleaned the boards off, not much up on the walls anymore, and what is there is under glass, so you cannot even 'editorialize' the Company Memos! |

here's another dot:
Starting June DELTA launches the second-phase of Los Angeles Domestic service expansion. (first phase was intro of 4 daily LAX SFO [RJ] LAX BNA and upgauge 4 of 7 daily LAX JFK from 757 to 763)
Oh, BTW don't look here: Virgin America to launch daily flights between LAX and SJC Virgin America to launch daily flights between LAX and LAS Cheers George |

BA cuts Qantas out of code share British Airways has moved to further sever ties with Qantas Airways by ending a long-standing code share between the two airlines in protest against the Australian carrier’s global alliance with Emirates. George |

Could be a big strategic move. But how high of a price is Delta management willing to go?
I don't think AA is in any position to start a bidding war. I'd say 3.5-4B in cash and stock. What price is worth holding back Emirates and kneecapping AA's west coast operation? Not to mention getting basically all of their HVC's. Not chump change for an airline of that size, but money talks. |
Once AA has the LAS/LAX/PHX capacity from LCC via merger, and the already strong SWA and UCAL presences out west, it will be a much easier "sell" to the DOJ/DOT for DAL to acquire ALK to "equalize" the competition in the western U.S.
The issue is made complicated(well, expensive anyway) by the runup in the stock price over the last 5-7 months since the AA/US merger talk started in earnest. Eliminating ALK in the west and JB in the East would kneecap Emirates pretty hard in the US markets and for lots of international traffic flowing from here, it's a matter of who does what to whom and when! *also Virgin Atlantic has a codehare with US Airways, I assume that is about to end! |
