What I meant was that if tomorrow all 70 and 76 aircraft were now flown by mainline pilots, there would not be some mass order of 737's or MD-90's or any other jets that are currently on mainline. We would have a bunch of new Delta pilots, but they would be former Compass, ASA, etc. pilots.

In other words, if we win this scope battle, it will not create some mass of new upgrades for pilots currently on our list.

I knew there was a misunderstanding here... we want the same goal and understand the implications.

I agree with this statement. The key is more Delta mainline jobs and less outsourcing with out rediculous flow throughs that just support the B-scale.

Also, there are a lot of the pilots I fly with who would take the left seat of the 76 seater. (No. It's not because of me :D ) I consider a move to the left seat to be an upgrade. :)

Well considering that, that type of airframe would pay what a 744/777 right seat would pay, I could see a lot of guys being happy doing that. I am one of them.
It was a good gig at the regionals and would be a great gig here.

Heyas,

As always, this thread gets resurrected by some pretty good points. I would add:

The nonsense about there being "no 100 seat replacement" is just that...nonsense. If the worlds largest airline put out a request for 100 100 seat aircraft that could:

1) Actually take 100 people.
2) Actually take some belly freight
3) Actually do 1 and 2 when an alternate is needed

You'd have the airplane builders all over themseves serving something up.

Instead, I think what has occured is a sort of "marketing paralysis". Managements don't WANT to commit to a new aircraft, because they want to wait it out a bit to see if we, or another group, folds on the 76 seat issue. As someone mentioned, airline management is pretty chummy with each other, and you don't want to show up at the next Airline CEO Ego Strokefest having ordered a bunch of 100 seaters for the mainline, when your buddy just rolled his pilot group for unlimited 76 seaters,

Overall, this is hurting not just the pilots, but the industry as a whole. They need to **** or get off the pot.

OTOH, some decisions MAY be forced on management. It would probably only take one more Buffalo, or a couple more Rochesters to drive Congress into banning codesharing outright. Then the game is over.

It is a good gig...and you are starting to show your cards...You tell us how much better your job is, but now some of you are admitting that you wouldn't mind having the senior RJ captain slot vs. commuting to reserve MD88 FO in JFK....

Sorry ACL65, but you left for greener pastures...Enjoy it and quit trying to have it both ways...

Thanks Alfa for the clarification.

So maybe you understand how some of us "lifers" at the regional feel? ASA and CMR tried to get a single list back in 2000 and the Delta MEC didn't want to merge lists...They didn't feel it was appropriate to merge a "regional" with a "major"....Interesting how so many mainline folks now want to fly these "little" airplanes...Why the change of heart?

Really JOe, get a lift. Point was that the jet could be a great job here.
When I got hired at ASA we have a few `46's that went way out west to BNA. These jets and routes to places like Turks do not need to be at DCI.
You did not have trip and duty rigs when I was there, straight time sucked.

It was a good gig. DAL is a great gig. I love my job, trying to mince my words will go nowhere quick.

We know you are happy at ASA. Stay there, and go enjoy your five weeks of vacation.

Perhaps Joe, some of those green pastures we want for you..... ACL and many of the other guys here are looking at the big picture. Sure, we all would like to improve our careers, but at the same time, many of us would like to see careers of many of our fellow pilots improve..... That includes you my friend.:)

Respectfully,

TC

76 seats jets are not little. They might be little mainline jets but getting on one of those at EV means you are in the big boy.

There is no change of heart, it is a good mainline entry level gauge jet. A good initial mainline upgrade jet. It is a fricken DC-9!
