By Dec 31 this year NWA will have retired 100 out of a total of 161 DC-9's without a replacement aircraft. If the NWA business plan includes replacing those 161 nines it will be brought out in the arbitration or as part of the process. My understanding however is that there was not a plan to replace the aircraft going forward. This was what led to the collapse of the first seniority list integration talks when Dalpa agreed to your concept for a dynamic seniority list. Once NWALPA's proposal was put on paper and properly modeled by DALPA the proposal was withdrawn since it was unfair and devasting to your junior pilots.

There were many MORE issues besides the DC9. Don't act as if that was the straw that broke the camel's back.

You sound like you're bragging!

I think sailingfun was just trying to be tactful.

Who told you?

I was in the lounge, and heard it and I read it on the DALPA boards.
Folks have talked to Crew Resources to confirm or deny the hiring rumor and CR said they never had plans to hire.
The Capt I flew with 2 days ago had spoken to them and the AE in Aug , according the the gentleman at CR he spoke to on Wed, "will be JUST LIKE the 777 AE in May".
Also CR said they heard of no plans to furlough.
Take all that FWIW.
I've heard the no hiring and AE info from 4-5 people. Call CR yourselves if you are curious...unfortunately, I bet they tell you the same thing.

NWA MEC can't take credit for issues that came from the other side.

The Fall hiring plan has been announced on several occasions by BB and the pilot new hire folks. 'Course, that was pre-oil price elevations. I'm in training at DAL currently and the scuttlebut is still hiring in either Fall or Winter. It's not a rumor but company plans at this point. That may all change with what's happening on several fronts.

If there is no backfill on this AE I don't see them hiring at least utill the close of a possible November AE. In order to hire there has to be a vacancy. They have to offer those vacancies to seniority list pilots first. If this August AE creates vacancies then they may need to hire.

The 76 Fleet manager Deen Bloom

It now looks like we will park 16 aircraft this fall. A mix of MD-88's and 757's. We will however take delivery of 18 aircraft by the end of spring 8 of which are 777's. Their manning is 3 to 3.5 times a domestic aircraft. There will be no need for pilots this winter however it is unlikely they can cover the summer 09 flying with hiring pilots. This assumes no further changes in the fleet plan. There are rumblings of the company asking DALPA to waive the manning formula in anticipation of the first joint bid in the fall of 09 where they could move surplus NWA pilots to fill the gaps. Fuel prices will be the number one driver of everything and all this can change in a blink of a eye.

Not unless we get something in return, I hope. From the company and NALPA in SLI negotiations.
