Re fly for ped diem, the company I used to work for allowed you to donate vacation days to an individual; that seemed to work out great...the ability to fly and direct the pay for the trip to someone would be good.
Guess what airline Melissa Etheridge took home this morning after doing that whole Breast Cancer event with us yesterday?

Little news quotes from around the biz. As usual, no one is as profitable as our "regional partners." IMHO we should do more of that flying, keep the revenues and make a profit instead of supplementing them to buy airlines and compete with us, but hey, what do I know?
UAL Corp. Plans To Lay Off 950 Pilots-Reuters
Reuters reported that UAL Corp. plans to lay off 950, or nearly 15%, of its pilots as it prepares to cut domestic capacity to offset soaring fuel prices. United has said it plans to cut its staff by 1,400 to 1,600 as it aims to reduce domestic capacity by 14% in the fourth quarter.
NOTE: UAL's flying being backfilled by SkyWest.

WASHINGTON -- Helped by fees on baggage, the nation's airlines posted better operating margins in the second quarter.
Low-cost and regional airlines had their first profitable operating margin since the third quarter of 2007, the U.S. Department of Transportation said Monday.
The low-cost carriers as a group had a 7 percent profit margin, and regional airlines had a 7.2 percent margin, the agency said.
That partly offset the performance of the nation's largest seven network carriers. They posted a loss margin of 0.5 percent in the April-to-June quarter. It was the group's seventh straight losing quarter, but the smallest loss margin in that time.
AMR Corp.'s American Airlines had an operating loss of 5.3 percent in the most recent period, followed by 5.2 percent at Continental Airlines Inc. and 3.5 percent at Delta Air Lines Inc. The other four network carriers had operating profits, led by Delta subsidiary Northwest, then US Airways, UAL Corp.'s United, and Alaska.
The Transportation Department said airlines collected $669.6 million in baggage fees in the second quarter, up 18 percent from the first quarter and about four times the amount they raised a year earlier.
American and Delta topped the bag fee collectors, with $118.4 million each, followed by US Airways at $104.1 million.
Airlines have been raising fees, first to cope with high jet fuel prices, then to offset a slump in travel.

My understand on the N-side is the 757-5500's sent to MZJ are finished. In fact, as I posted earlier, there's a lot of guessing as to whether any of the ship numbers before 5534 last past mid to late next year.
There has been a lot of talk about that. Four of the NWA 757's put there that I saw were 5500 series jets Two had engines off of them. I asked about them and they stated that they were in temp storage. As with the 9's out there some may never see the air again.
Call me crazy but like my boy acl said unless we get some scope control we r in a bad place for lack of nasty words. Delta north has a lot of old planes and they r gonna go to rest!! Sorry but facts r facts!! Delta south has some that r going to sleep but not as many. We need to look out for each other in the future!! One mind one body. For once let's be a pilot force!! Keep jobs where everyone wants them!!!
Also did anyone see the brief where no jet bridge operater is necessary?? That equals us being paid right?? And u know what I mean!! No beacon bs. If no bridge we r incharge so pay us!!
We will see how many gate agents leave. Most like that time. They way I read the memo, it was up to them. My guess is that they will hang out unless they are headed to the bus.
