Question about being scheduled to fly with LCA giving OE....my next trip, the LCA I'm scheduled to fly with is giving initial OE to an FO. My question is, if it's the FO's first time in the airplane, am I going to have to ride along in the jump seat for the first three legs? It's been a while since I've gotten one of these deals.

I had one last month I thought I was going to be released from but the OE candidate disappeared from the trip 2 days prior.

Thanks, Erik

Crew scheduling will call and release you after about 7:00 PM the night before the trip if the OE is on.

Disregard.......

Thanks, so the requirement to ride along the first four legs-three landings for the OE'er, isn't required anymore? Like I said, it's been a while. E

There's an airplane in the picture? Oh wait...

You must be a pilot too.

I immediately thought "hey, they photoshopped in that Kalitta 747 that overran 25R in BRU, and look at how they just added a green stripe". The boobies barely even registered. A pilot, I am.

Hey Junglebus, aren't you in Maddog training? Get to bed! The faster you fall asleep, the faster the nightmares and hot sweats can start.

I actually enjoyed the Maddog and the pilots that say it sucks, either didn't get used to it or have never flown it. It's a good aircraft, the FO seat is a busy seat though. Good luck, welcome aboard.

I don't know how much time you did at a regional, but you have a golden career from here on out (I sincerely hope so, anyway). You guys and girls are getting in at the beginning of what is hopefully a big hiring wave and the movement is just beginning.

Welcome aboard, E

I don't believe that is the case anymore for the first time guys. When I got hired, it was 5 legs before the FO was released for a first "window seat" checkout. ... he kept buying me beers. I think it was a good deal for both.

Since we have no back seats, I don't think there is that restriction anymore, but a longer initial OE is still required.

JungleBus had dreams about newKnow's bear rug.

I too enjoyed the maddog... the high workload definitely dealt out a certain work for job satisfaction and learning the operation. I can't say my airplane nerd self would have stayed on it any longer than I did, though.

Here's a bonus question for you (or anyone else). Can a reserve get a short notice (less than 12, but greater than 10 hour notice) GS if he has no more x-days left in the month, i.e. he has only on call days left?

23.U.1.b Note two: "A reserve pilot awarded a GS rotation in which all duty periods of the rotation are scheduled to operate on on-call days may request that one X-day that coincides with a day on which the pilot does not have a duty period within the GS rotation be moved to the first day of the GS rotation."

If the guys is new to the a/c you may not be released right away or at all.

That it is not correct. I had this last month and called to asks questions about the release process. I was told that as soon as training sends the official good to go for the OE student at about 7 pm the night before you get released.

No more showing up to see if the capt will release you. That is the case where the hole trip is bought. I have also had training take part of the trip as well. Also in that case I was notified by training mid trip I was released, not the capt.
