But it does not sound like we will have the pilots either ....
How does Virgin America and Norwegian find FO's? *not directed towards you. sometimes the roll your eyes smilie seems like it's directed to the OP, which is unfortunate because it is not in this case. We need better smilies. I want the ones that smash beers together to say "we're friends" or "we agree" and ones with middle fingers showing to say "we're not friends" or "we don't agree" or "I hate your guts", we need ones banging their heads against a wall to say "I hate myself for being here..." if you do beer smashing + banging head + middle finger then that means "the one thing we can agree on is that I should hate myself for being here with you, because I hate you." Smilies have such great purpose, why do we only have a few? |

Junglebus..you're gonna have a lot of very long 4-days in the right seat of a 88 if you insist on pressing this position.
I guess you just don't get it. And unless you get furloughed from DL and replaced by a 9E guys wearing your uniform, flying planes painted in your colors carrying your pax who bought a ticket on your airline to mainline destnations that you used to fly to...you never will. As far as I'm concerned, DL should never have bailed 9E out of BK. They could have merged with any other rat-jet operator to undercut the next group, or just liquidated. Then those big, shiny new RJ's could just come on over to mainline where they belonged in the first place. And before you jump all over me with the " how can advocate all those poor rj pilots and their families being kicked to the street"..remember that's exactly what happened to 1310 DL mainline families..many who stayed out longer cause there were plenty of rj pilots more than willing to replace them and pretend to be something they weren't. Now, you want us to just accept that 9E guys really are DL pilots just because at the end of mgmt's shell game they happened to come up with a paycheck that says DL on it?! GMAB Once again...all the 9E pilots can take the 6000 hrs of TPIC to any legacy they want. They've got better quals and are in a better position to get hired than any of us were back in the hiring boom of 99. Hopefully they saved some cash while they made a 100k as rj captain non-reving to Paris on mainline. They've got it pretty good. Just don't come complaining about how you had to actually go thru an interview to actually become a DL pilot. Yes, I know CZ and Mesaba flows get jobs without having a college degree or interview. They got the golden ticket. Lifes a b!tch,do your best with the cards you're dealt. To be considered qualified to flow up, an eligible Mesaba pilot must: 1) be a Captain and 2) meet all objective hiring criteria and requirements established by Delta (e.g., total flight time, multi-engine time, PIC, educational degree(s), First Class Medical Certificate, passport, FCC Radio permit, ATP certificate). Note one: Such objective criteria will not be greater or more extensive than the objective criteria for other new hires. Note two: A pilot who does not meet these criteria will retain the right to flow up once he is able to meet the above criteria until the date the most junior remaining eligible Mesaba pilot is offered flow up. Compass pilots on the other hand do not have this requirement. This is because when Compass was started, the hiring process was handled by NWA and the NWA hiring standards were used for employment at Compass. NWA did not require a degree. You are correct that neither has to complete an additional interview with Delta to flow. |

To clarify.... I never said I make less now. If I did, or if that was your perception, allow me to correct it now:
I did make more in 2013 than in 2012. My point was that, especially when on reserve, I work more for the extra money, and I MUST work more. Manning is tighter due to C12 concessions, making it harder (impossible during summer and most weekends) to drop trips and reserve days (my heavily utilized method of improving QOL). For me, the extra days of work are not worth the marginally higher pay. Not by a damn sight. What the DALPA regulars here refuse to acknowledge in my criticism of their C12 defensive perimeter is that my QOL and amount of time with my family has diminished. I'm not the only one. And QOL/time with the fam is far more important to me than a few extra bucks. I'm of the opinion that this would be a direct result of that category being overstaffed for a few years, the reserves becoming accustomed to the reduced reserve utilization that accompanied this overmanning and then the company making the choice to not backfill as pilots bid out of the category. This has caused that category to now be more rationally staffed in comparison to other categories across the company and the reserves in that category are now being used about as much as the reserves in other categories have always been getting used. I'm sure those reserves are working more than they were before, but this isn't being purely driven by any provision in C2012. It was set up by Delta being willing to carry a surplus in a category for a time period instead of displacing a bunch of pilots and over the last year or so they have corrected for that by not backfilling. On the other hand, since I am taking a stab in the dark here, I could be completely wrong. It wouldn't be the first time. I do agree with PurpD that QOL is a very important factor and worth more than "a few bucks". |
Edward Michael Mucha, age 58, passed away at home with family by his side on April 21, 2014, at 11 a.m., 15 months after a pancreatic cancer diagnosis. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pa., Ed accomplished much in his short life. After receiving a BS in chemistry and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, Ed joined the U.S. Navy Air Training Program. He served as a Navy Pilot, flying observation flights over the Atlantic Ocean and then continued as a Naval Reserve officer. Following his active military career, he flew as a pilot-captain for Northwest Airlines until the merger with Delta and then continued to fly for Delta until January 2013. Preceded in death by his parents, Henry L. and Susan Smorag Mucha; he is survived by his wife of 30 years, Patricia Smith Mucha; three sons originally from Poland, Arthur (Kristina), John, and Gregory. He is also survived by his siblings, Susan of Pittsburgh, Pa., Tom (Susan) of Ft. Meyers, Fla., Gregory of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Joyce (John) of Anchorage, Alaska. Ed spent many years devoted to our country, first as a pilot in the Navy, then about five years ago, he picked up the activist banner of the "Veterans for Peace," whose mission is to abolish war and to expose the true cost of war. He believed our true nature is compassion but somewhere along the way we have gotten side-tracked. Ed chose to have his body donated for scientific research. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Veterans For Peace, Home :: Veterans for Peace , or the Polaris Project, Polaris Project | Combating Human Trafficking and Modern-day Slavery , is what Ed would have liked.
Ed and I were in the same new hire class. He was a true gentleman. Always upbeat and positive. Sad, sad loss |
Robo, sorry for the loss of your friend. Been a tough stretch around here with his loss as well as the passing of Jim Gasik and Jim Maroney. Stay safe and enjoy every day!

BTW, the person(s) that negotiated the stipulation about GS#2 not being handed out until everyone had a shot at GS#1 need(s) to have a statue erected in their honor. That was a huge improvement.
