Surface Pro 3 ... check out this Blog Post (shamelessly stolen from the Chit Chat forum)
Microsoft Announces Surface Pro 3 Qualification for FAA/EASA Authorization for Commercial Airlines and a navAero connected power and data mount for the cockpit | Surface Blog
IMHO we should immediately dump the Surface 2 RT mess and go with the Pro version which runs normal Windows and works well.

You can slide the portion in each month within that month. If you have a vacation the last 3 days of NOV and first 4 days of DEC you can move the 3 day block anywhere you can hold in NOV. The 4 day DEC block will stay 1 to 4 DEC until you bid for DEC. It can then be moved also.

I think, it's just a temporary situation, because the extra 30 planes are likely not coming due to staffing, the 40 we are getting at this point, probably won't last more than 2-3 years at the current attrition rate. In your C2015, I think probably, the company will use the 30 CRJ's as part of a scope recapture package like they did with the 50's.

Don't forget about the vacation "any" option!

Be the man BB!
ALSO... I'm a Windows guy mostly, using and like Win 7, kids have Windows 8 original on laptops (which I hate). Also have Galaxy Tab 3.1 tablet, Nexus 7 half-size tablet both running on Android, and both of which I really like. You really seem to know the current IT environment, what are your thoughts on the Microsoft Pro 2 or 3 as a laptop replacement/single machine, and where's best place to buy? I recall you posting something a while ago on some great deal, but can't find it...
Thanks BB!

Wow, that is so vastly much better than the RT turd we're slogging away on! I hope you forward this article to someone involved in the EFB fiasco, as you probably know who that might be, and I don't actually trust that Delta will ever notice or know about this Pro 3 option if someone doesn't tell them...

The only thing about the original Pro and Pro 2 is the screen size. For any serious productivity I plug the display port adapter into an HDMI port (easy at most hotels we go to). Then you've got a TV sized monitor and you can play your movies (I like documentaries on classical economics).
Here's where I check for deals ... although there are bunches of sites like this:
Computers Deals | Slickdeals
Now that I've spent some time with the Surface Pro, it appears to be well worth the retail $1,000'ish asking price. MS product support on the Surface is astonishing. Walk in with a gripe, walk out with a new unit (YMMV). MS has been able to optimize memory and storage in such a way as to make your Surface do everything a home PC can do, yet load the OS and software faster than your Android tablets. It's a cool tool.
I am sure there will be some hot Thanksgiving (Black Friday) deals if you can wait until then.
There is nothing wrong with the original Surface Pro ... the battery life is about half of the real world time you will get on the Pro 2, but if you get a battery cover that makes it as long lasting and it is actually faster.
The Pro 2 is IMHO a "sweet spot" if you can find one under $500. With the profit sharing check a Pro 3 could be a "why not" purchase.

Some smart Delta pilots who had this system figured out and working approached the Company and were told "thanks but, no thanks." I'm not sure Delta really wants any line swine input on our EFB.

I know this is a stupid question but what is the latest on the EFB's?

Like you I hated Windows 8, but 8.1 was better and after a few hours navigating the OS I've gotten to where I just love the convenience it offers. It's "meh" on a desktop or large laptop where you do not use touch, but Win 8.1 is brilliant on a tablet.

Microsoft's next OS is Windows 10, will ship later in 2015
