Quote: I probably need to call scheduling on this one, but I'd like to at least think I know the answer before I ask the question.

I finish IOE on the 19th of December. My reserve obligation ends on 20 December. I have a golden day on 21 December. Is it possible to be assigned a trip on 20 December?

My logic: Long call starts at 12:01 on 20 December. If I am assigned short call the earliest they can do it is 10am, plus 2 hours to get to airport which means noon. Since the following day is a golden day, I am released at noon.

Is my logic sound? Just trying to figure out if I need to commute to my crash pad in NYC or if I can safely chill out at the house with no legal reserve obligation.
I would check your schedule when you finish OE. They generally have short calls assigned by 3 pm, and you can look at the reserve availability list to see if other short calls have been assigned. I have Personal Dropped a day after a single reserve day in order to not get short call and I have never gotten short call in that circumstance. You could however be given a trip on long call, which does not require a noon release. The noon release only applies to short call.

Edit: after I typed this I realized there have been numerous replies so I guess I'm beating a dead horse!
I'm just glad they are finally sharing the love so other categories will get to "enjoy" domestic 5-days.

Good luck!

Quote: Well, after 117 most of the 5-days suck. The very few that are commutable do go senior, but the rest go to the bottom lineholders or reserves that want nothing to do with them.

Should be required to make them commutable if they are going to build them. Nothing like a 5 day with an 0730 report day one and a release at 1930 on day 5.
In my catagory, DTW7ERB, after 117, the 5 day trips are most likely to be commutable. I'm a commuter and my favorite trips are high time, commutable, 3 day trips (other than the occasional Europe trip they don't exist anymore). 4 day commutable trips are my second preference and they've pretty much disappeared since 117. The 5 day trips are mostly commutable...I hate the true 5 day trips but I can tolerate the trips that end in a red eye with a 25-30 hour layover in SFO or LAS before the last leg. It's only 4 days of flying.

Quote: Let's say it credited 35 hours or a bit more, would it then be worth it though?
Yes it would. I don't think the domestic 5-days get much over 31 hours though. The commutable ones are usually worth 26-28 hours. The uncommutable ones get to 30 sometimes. I got re-routed once and it turned into a 6 day that paid 33.

I just think they are too long. Everyone used to say a 4-day is twice as long as a 3-day. Well, for me a 5-day is 10 times as long as a 4-day. And if you aren't careful 117 rules will stack them back to back on ya.
5 days, 18+ legs into/out of ATL or LGA on the Mad dog.

That's safe.

Delta Air Lines Hosts Investor Day Dec. 11, 2014 - MarketWatch
American Airlines:

"The current consensus from analysts is that profits in 2015 will top those of 2014. They are expecting net income of $5.5 billion next year, excluding any special items and one-time charges.

And, with energy prices now plummeting, American’s profits will only go up."

Quote: Is anyone famiar with the folks that run the bidding service...the former eazybid lady guru?
I don't know what specifics you want but it is Flightline.com. Her name is Sharon but I don't think they pay her to come to the airport anymore. Phone numbers are on the web page. Hope that helps.
Quote: Guys,

Look for 5 day trips coming to most domestic categories starting in February. Supposedly a small percentage of trips, maybe 10%.

Although I don't intend to bid 5 day trips, in general the more variety the better. Most commuters who can hold them would easily be able to fly three trips now and break 75 Hours.

Scoop
So spend five days straight to get five days of pay? No thanks. I love how people demand five day trips, they put them out and nobody bids them so they go to reserves.

I'm not so sure people demand them. If they do, it must be on par with the crowd demanding CDOs (split-duty). I want a happy family. Gone for a full 15 days a month is not conducive to a happy wife. Those occasional am's and pm's home go a long way.

This could have an undesired response the company is not anticipating with more training. I would consider changing equipment if needed to avoid these trips for the necessary seniority (downbid). If still unable to avoid 5 days, bid up for pay because QOL sucks either way.
