I think you're right. After that first drive O looked terrific. Then reality set in. Bama would have to play their A game but they'd beat O too.

Woody said that when defenses were allowed to mug receivers and quarterbacks. Now when you throw a pass six things can happen and four of them are good*. The probabilities have changed.

* pass interference, targeting, and roughing the passer are all automatic first downs and targeting is a possible ejection.

UAE says OPEC will no longer shore up oil price

I think the U.S government should subsidize shale producers so we can get to 10 million bpd by 2020 and watch the Saudi's go back to watching their camels. The last thing we need as a Nation is to see all the corporations that have gotten us to energy independence go bankrupt so we are once again at the mercy of the Saudi's for our oil.

I know it's not free market stuff, but I really don't want to see the Saudi's run our domestic oil producers out of business.

I agree. Energy independence and development is a national strategic imperative. Much like the interstate highway system. I'd be willing to pay a little more at the pump to fund it.

However, if the citizens are funding this during the lean times, I don't expect these corporations to gouge us if prices once again rise.

Although I agree with the strategic importance, I think your last statement requires a double negative.

We don't need prices to rise which is why OPEC always controlled output. We just need our domestic companies that have literally revolutionized the industry in the last decade to stay solvent. If we can keep them running and turn U.S. into the swing producer of the world, then we win the battle.

Saudi Arabia has a 750 Billion dollar bank account. They can produce oil at under $10 bbl but their budget is based on $85 or something like that. With the current prices they run about a $50 Billion defecit per year. In under 10 years Emirates, Ethiad, and Quatar will have no more state funded money if the U.S. can keep producing oil and keep the prices under $50 bbl.

Agreed, but that should come hand-in-hand with much tighter environmental controls. What's not being discussed much is the damage being done. A little less free-for-all, a little consolidation probably wouldn't hurt, and the flip side of it could be bigger operators doing things better and tighter.

One way or another, this is all meant to concentrate production in the hands of the large producers. Saudi ARAMCO and EXXON aren't really all that far apart, are they?

Not supporting or disagreeing with your argument, but that stands zero chance of happening in the near future. We want energy independence, but it has to be the right energy. Plenty of billions available for solar, windmills and other bankrupt-ready investments. Just sayin'.

Good luck on the AE, folks. We're all counting on you.

Hopefully we'll see some of our FOs doing the "I'm going to be a Delta Captain Dance."
