No, I had boots.

But I did grow up in New Hampshire and I did walk home from school often, after football or hockey practice, and it was up hill, and sometimes it was even in the snow.

That's why I live in Florida now! :D

On the other hand it does so much for us automatically I see how it would be easy to get lulled into a sense of security and make a complete blockhead move because I think the jet has things under control. Small example is when the WDR doesn't autoupload I've noticed that more than once we've forgotten to put in the NADP information.

The auto upload for the T/O data only works about 50% of the time on the 777, and that's in the ATL. In some of our outstations on the other side of the planet; less than 50% of the time.

And you are right about the complacency, that's the problem with 'too much' automation. When it stops working, you either don't catch it right away, or worse, you've forgotten how to do it manually!

How would someone(not me) recommend that Delta NOT hire someone? Had a new hire ask about this because of a former co-worker that is applying here. Btw, the new hire is a great dude.

Call Arnie K directly & explain the situation. I had the unfortunate experience of doing just this 7 years ago. I had sent in a LOR for a buddy who I had no reservations about, I thought he was solid. Turns out he'd been fired from a job, multiple checkride failures and had been arrested by the DOJ for Immigration fraud. I was dumbfounded when I found out and felt betrayed. I called AK and explained the situation and apologized prophetically. AK thanked me for the update, appreciated my integrity for the tough call and succinctly said that person would be blacklisted from ever interviewing at DAL. I have since recommended 2 others who've both been selected. Had I not made the first call subsequent candidates that I wanted to recommend may have been tainted.

All small cat sailors,

I live on a small 325 acre private lake (lake redwine, Newnan)... nne/ssw 2mi long, 1/2mi wide... 35ft deep in the middle, 3ft at the ends... winds light to very strong, primarily w/wnw.

I've seen one on the lake with rounded hulls that goes slower than snot, and one with knife edge hulls that flies!

Any suggestions for a used/cheapish cat for my lake that is quite quick, works well in light & strong winds, and will hold 2/3 peeps? I.e., make/model/size/year?

Thx!

Hockey practice in the afternoon!?!?!? Holy cow! Our hockey practice was at the Bowdoin rink at 0500 AM!!!!!!! After that we walked to school in the snow!!!

And when at Hebron Academy, the rink was OUTDOORS!!!! Right near the base of Mt. Washington! Look at the weather there in the winter! It was so freaking cold the ice cracked!!!!!

And on the 88, who's got time to check the "correctness" of the AWABS? Just load the thing and let's GO!!!!

If I think I understand what your saying correctly...The new guy is trying to have a someone blacklisted?

I'm sure the new guy is a great dude, but I can't help thinking that is somewhat of a gutsy move, especially as a newbie. I know of a few former pilot colleagues, who I was never particularly fond of, get hired on by Delta. I've really always thought going out of my way to blacklist anyone as kind of a jerk move. I'm not labeling anyone here, just saying this is a very small industry and I couldn't imagine going out of my way to burn someone like that unless I truly felt it would save lives one day.

What's that old saying again....what comes around, must come down.

And we haven't even begun to see "big data" yet.

I get D-0, I really do. But stranding people (revenue or revenue-generators aka "non-revs) on the last flight of the day to get a D minus 10 is a punk move. Gate agents don't do it because they're mean, but because of an inappropriate emphasis from on high that takes common sense out of the equation and tries to make everything fit into a one size fits all policy memo. I saw a commuter and 2 triple titanium diamond coated medallions with briefcases and a carry-on running from an international first class flight to catch an RJ flight that was 7 or 8 prior with the door closed and jetway pulled. No sympathy from the agent. So sorry, "sir".

We do a lot right operationally. A lot. And much of what we do right is on time based. I get it, I really do. But disempowering the front lines to make common sense decisions in favor of policy memos is a step in the wrong direction.

Sadly, my last exchange with "those above" fell on deaf ears. DAL creates metrics to measure and manage problems. Occasionally they manage the metric itself and make the problem worse. They need to change the metrics to fit reality. Stations should be graded on having the airplane ready as they can't control when ATC lets us push. Latency is nonsense. Turn the beacon on early, get the chocks out and the ground crew away from the jet and safe. Then push as soon as possible. Who cares when the light came on or when the brakes were released? The beacon is a safety issue. Record the freaking time off GPS movement. Pay us from door closing and use GPS movement for out time. JMO, OFG
