DCI is struggling to even come close to staffing what they have now for the summer schedule. It will be even worse the next few years. I doubt more large RJ's will even be discussed. I'm sure they want more seats in what they have, but they can't staff more airframes and doubt we will see a push for that.

What we will see is a push to soften the language of our JV balance agreements which means widebody Delta jobs go to AF/KLM, Virgin, GOL, and Aeromexico......and soon China Eastern. Way more of a threat to Delta pilots than the RJ threat at this point.

It's gotten to the point with some Captains I've flown with that I can actually turn my entire side down to zero and just listen through my noise canceling headsets to their speaker. I can even hear them talk fine and carry on a conversation because they are screaming over the wind noise and speaker. I just shake my head in disbelieve at these guys. Wish the company would start embracing modern technology and put hot mikes on our airplanes. Every time I talk to somebody higher up about this it falls on deaf ears (literally...pun intended)

I will often get bad feedback on my noise canceling when they have the speaker turned up. It drives me crazy. You don't need the speaker turned up when you have the headphone on both of you ears. Many times I just cut my volume off because their speaker is so loud. Noise cancelling is the way to go.

True, unless the mainline operations lobby for and get relief on the 1500 hour rule.

I have been concerned about the wide body issue since the first time I saw a Delta aircraft painted in Skyteam colors. I was just in Amsterdam and saw a KLM aircraft painted in Skyteam colors. I thought it was Delta when I first saw it. Definite threat.

As it should be. The CRJ-900's and E-195's need to be at Delta flown by Delta pilots as well. I like the 717, and hope to fly it soon. It's a good airplane. But I would rather fly a CRJ-900 at Delta, or a Cessna 152 for that matter, than have any Delta branded aircraft flown by any non Delta pilots. It's the only way to truly protect the integrity of the Delta name.

I am trying to understand a little more about GS pay. I'd like to take a hypothetical month were the GS trigger is 72 hours, the bank limit is 77 hours, and my line is 74 hours. If I were to pick up a 2 day 10:30 GS that pays 21:00, would I be able to bank any of that time? Assuming the answer is "no", then is there any way other than just straight-pay white slipping above the bank limit to fill up my bank?

edit: as a follow-up (ignore bank aspect for this question, just curious about total pay), what if I only had 70 hours on my line prior to the GS? How many hours would I be paid for the month assuming I didn't have any hours already in the bank to fill up to the GS limit.

If I remember correctly, if you are negative in the bank, automatically 5 hours will get deducted and put in the bank. You can also pay back your negative bank, you just have to make the election in DBMS.
