That is the new HK, the 'Same Day Stand By' ticket holder.

They are the ones who buy the cheapest fare, on the latest (cheapest) flight, but show up early to the airport and Stand By for an earlier flight, the one you thought was Wide Open. They get on right after all the HK's, and ahead of YOU!
That's just wonderful!

Reserve month to line holder guys beware! Had five reserve days at end of month followed by line holder the next month starting with three days off. I flew a four day on reserve leaving one reserve day at end of month. I thought I was golden. Checked my schedule after 4 day and they gave me another four day eating my 3 days off at the beginning of my line holder month. I called laughing saying you must be mistaken you took me into my days off as a line holder and thats 12 days on. Haha. Take it off.
They said haha you're doing it.

We can take all your days off and you have a 31 hour overnight in the middle so you can be gone all 12 days.

If you are trying to non-rev they are "Hope-Killers."

Actually they are passengers who purchased a discounted ticket which does not allow them to select a seat. Since they purchased a ticket they are obviously ahead of all non-revs.

I have heard that they are included in the Travelnet numbers but the problem is they seem to magically appear out of nowhere as you get closer to your flight - Thus the Hope -Killer.

Scoop
To add to what Scoop wrote, they can also be misconnects from an earlier flight, or deadheaders of the last-minute variety.

For instance, at least one Delta Connection carrier does not book deadhead seats until 9PM central time the night before the flight, even if the trip had a deadhead in it the whole time since the bid award came out weeks prior. 0/-3 suddenly becomes 0/-7, at 10PM for a 7AM flight.

Just curious about something contractually and in actual practice, when do the monthly bid pacakges come, bid open, close, and awards published? Eg, 10th, 12th, 17th, and 19th?

Timeline is on page 2 of the bid package every month.

A training question that's a bit off topic for those more knowledgable than myself (not hard to do):

I'm one of the select few SEA 73 folks required to do JNU training in early December.

There are 6 bid options for us, but I have a carryover trip that covers 2 of the "training rotations."

How should I handle this? My trip goes 30Nov-3Dec, but if I am awarded training 1Dec-4Dec, what happens?

I can't seem to find much on this. Thanks in advance.

Normally PBS would not allow 1-4 training with a carry-in trip. But since your whole category has to get qualified ASAP I am not 100% sure about your situation.

I would say you are probably not going to get 1-4 training, but who knows? Maybe the scheduling Gods will smile down upon you and your trip will drop.
