You get paid for your original trip that was dropped in addition the entire green slip trip is paid at double.

I've seen and heard of some pretty nasty reroutes on those airplanes - on the ER or larger, there really isn't much to go wrong. When the schedule gets really bad, they just recrew it and send it off.

Of course, the company would say, "statistics say that's a rare event" or "it's within the PWA and FARs". Sure it's legal, but safe or restful?

No thanks - I see why plenty of Int'l FOs want to stay right there near the top of the list, do a GS or pick up a WS if they need some extra dough. Meanwhile they enjoy the summer vacation and holidays off.
And unlike in past years, now you have PBS, so if you're not in the top half of a category, you are working most or every weekend, every month, every holiday, and forget meaningful vacation weeks. So being a jr. Capt for a couple of bucks more is worth that hassle? I guess if you can add LCA pay to it maybe. But that's just a handful of guys. You can work 10 days on a 777 roster for the same hours as 14 or 15 days on a narrowbody. That's why I think the company would do well to consider some QOL improvements that would mitigate the 'juniority' issue for NB captains. Keep in mind, most of that demographic is 40 ish, young kids at home, and they need flexibility and time at home. They get that on the international fleet. They just don't on the domestic side.

This is not correct. You are paid single pay, no credit for the picked-up trip and single pay, credit for the dropped rotation. Neither is paid as double.

This is incorrect. The GSWC is paid "single pay, no credit" for the entire trip. The trip dropped due to a conflict is paid single pay, with credit. There's no "double pay" on a GSWC, you are just getting paid "extra" for not having to work the dropped trip.

Edit: What VPI said also.

There's only so much you can do to an international pilot. I've talked with lots of new captains that regret their upgrade and are looking to go back to the right seat on a widebody.
I'm a LCA and have never had anyone ask me to encourage senior FOs to upgrade. I even called my chief to see if I'm missing something, nope. No one, in management, is doing that. Might there be a few individual LCAs telling guys to upgrade, sure.

You are kidding yourself that there is a crisis of leadership. Almost without fail the guys who do well in captain upgrade are the junior guys who bid it early. The ones who struggle are the long term wide body FOs who spent the last ten years worried about fish or steak for dinner and paid zero attention to how the captain was running the flight deck. Let them go back to the right seat of a wide body. The younger guys do just fine.

I have heard exactly that from LCA's. And higher. Much higher in mgmt. Your statement of 'let them go back to the right seat' in reference to the junior upgrades, shows that you are the one kidding yourself. Those chickens are coming home to roost anyhow.. it's just a matter of time.

Ok, a buddy of mine is going to SLC next week. Gimme some good, reasonable places to eat. It's been awhile since I've laid over there. Thx
