Convention center is a place to start.

It may not be for a few weeks, but I'll chime in if I happen across something interesting.

The cell phone lot at ATL isn't a bad place to watch the planes. The quality of the show depends on which way they are landing. No bathroom. Kids cannot run around. Air conditioning in the car.

Pdk is a good place. It can go from quiet for a few min to fill blown ATC video game in extreme hard level. G6s mix with c172s with BE58S with helicopters, sometimes blimps, yellow sought song biplanes and the guy on his first solo. Occasionally someone slides off the runway. Just. Like. AtL.

Seat Lock/Training Freeze question:

If a person incurs a 2-year seat-lock due to bidding a different a/c on this next AE, then a new category opens (i.e. DTW 350A/B) how does bidding the new aircraft/category affect the current seat-lock? Is it an additional 2-years, on top of our current freeze or does the person just incur a "new" 2-year freeze? Thanks in advance.

Since it is a new category, I don't think you add the two freezes. I think that is only if you are in a freeze and get a Captain bid. It is on page 2-5 of the PWA.

c. during which the pilot will (unless declared eligible by the Company) be ineligible to be awarded another AE with an earliest conversion date falling within the freeze period (other than to a new or reestablished category) for which qualification training is required.

Nothing about incurring more freeze.

Sweet. Do the current EFB's utilize gogo? If It's like my last gig you'd have to ask a flight attendant or passenger to describe the radar picture to be legal.

Unfortunately, you do. You will go to qualification training for the new category and 23.G.1 states that "[a] pilot who is awarded an AE or VD for which qualification training is required will incur a 24-month category freeze." The presence of the new category (i.e., A350) allows you to be eligible to bid for that new category (despite being under a freeze) but it does not erase a current freeze/committment.

I seem to recall a pilot who bid NYC B717 Captain and then, on the next AE, hopped over to NYC A330 F/O. That is probably 40-45 months of category freeze right there. On the bright side, he/she won't have to worry about filling out AE preferences for a while...until the A350 or CSeries comes along (or that long-rumored MSP 73N category opens). 😊
