Can you use a PD for the first day of a 5 day, then pick up a 4 day for the remaining days? Or is that only on APD's? Of course the days are black but close. Was hoping that during the course of the run that it may trigger and than pick up a 4 day.

You can pickup over any PD day. You can pick up any any day that doesn't have the letters "APD" on it. (APD one day to drop the trip.)

A PD will drop the whole trip, you don't PD a certain day...

APD drops the whole trip but you cannot fly on the day you choose to APD.

So....you can fly on any day of a PD but not the day you chose for your APD....

Make sense?

To further clarify, APD has another option.

You can APD the entire trip by rotation number. Doing it this way puts APD on each day of the dropped trip. The only reason I know of why someone would do it this way is if they don't want to risk being IA'd those days.

Ok, so I can PD a 5 day starting on Thursday and WS a 4 day on Friday if the reserve levels happen to work.

Yes. There is no restriction on any WS/SWP/or GS when you drop a drip via PD. If, on the other hand, you APD a day of a trip, i.e. Thursday in the above example, you cannot pick up any flying that touches the APD day.

Which, btw, is silly. If I want to use my APD to get rid of a crappy trip and then pick up something else, what is the problem ?

Because the idea of the APD is not to dump a crappy trip and pick up a better one, that is what swap with the pot is for. An APD was designed to allow you to make an important family/life event that you would otherwise not be able to avoid work for.

I believe APD used to be authorized leave. Big difference, you got paid for the trip.
