ACL if you're going for "Most Loyal APC contributor" you win. What are you doing on here? You need to be enjoying your layover in the land of far, far away. But that said, PM me your prognostications.:)

Lets think about AS for a second.
We get JAL, AMR and WN will go after AS immediately. It would be the only way to blow a hole in our route structure. It may be ugly for us, but from a business standpoint they have to do something to shore it up. Either up the poision pill or buy em. I smell an acquisition. It would be more out of necisity than desire. They get what they want out of it now.
We could go it alone, but as many here have stated that would dilute the market share.

Yep 7000 miles from home and I am on here. Have no fear I am out the door for dinner with the crew.

Man, I hate it when we've outsourced flying then we can't control the result. A Mesa flavored Cookie anyone?

At least we are learning. Eventually we will reach the level of self awareness to know the strongest airline is the one that concentrates on its operation, offering the customer the best product, efficiently delivered.

I say, screw the deal making and costs of reorganization. Customer loyalty can be lost, or earned, rather quickly these days. Until we reach the point that we can beat the competition in the marketplace our acquisitions will only lead to eventual retrenchment (as has been the pattern in the past).

If American wants to try on an Alaska that feeds nothing, let them Reno / TWA that operation and let us grow organically with new jets and new pilots by offering a better product. Otherwise the Virgin America's, Frontiers and Air Trans will slowly chip away at this market share while we deal with a lot of old equipment and excessively senior pilots.

JMHO. I agree with ACL, we'll probably buy Alaska, or do a stock swap allowing the deal makers to cash out. Alaska is a very well run niche airline. Delta is a very well managed giant. Are those skills interchangeable? History tells us the answer is no. But, I do have more confidence in Delta's management than most airline managements in history.

Another wrinkle of an Alaska deal is that their senior management may not act entirely rationally (ie take the money and run). As has been said of our management "I think they like running their airline."

All I can say is "scene one, take two." Is this movie we're in going to have a sequel shortly?

I still think the current administration might have some heartburn with DL aquiring AS. Would code sharing agreements have any effect on an aquisition by either DL or AA? Alaska currently code shares with both.

Lets merge with AA and be done with it. I like their scope position. :)
