G. Dude,

Now that you're back in ATL, did you get a crash pad or still at a hotel? Is it pretty easy to find a crash pad down there? And, how long is your aircraft training now?

Thanks,
Bluto

Bucking Bar,

What aircraft is your buddy on? I'm just trying to finalize my last flight in the Navy and transition to terminal leave. Does anyone think this is a bad idea to keep flying in the NAV, albeit not very much, for the few weeks after indoc and prior to aircraft training? I need some insight on this fairly quickly as I'm running out of time. I know there is a lot of home study during that time, but would be nice not to burn "leave" time if I'm still able to work a little for a few weeks. Would rather save the time and sell it back at the end. Thoughts?

I did get a crash pad with 3 other dudes from my class. There are plenty of crash pads on the bulletin boards in the training dept. Check the boards at the bidding computers on the third floor and at the cafe on the first floor. MD-88 training is one month, then you are off to IOE.

What was the average break in training for your class? I'm trying to not go on terminal leave until I return for the second half. ;) Double dip to the max!

Rhino

I would ask the new hire coordinator if there is going to be a break. He should have an idea which aircraft assignments will have a break. Ask him where you are in the class for seniority. Now, our class had a week to two weeks off. I think that was because June was the first month they did two classes in a month. It will start changing as Delta gets the new hire training program back into full swing. Remember, they haven't been training new hires since 2001. So I believe the hiring is parallel with what the training dept. can handle. The classes are getting bigger so they are getting back into the full swing of things. I would be as flexible as I can. (And double dip to the max extent possible!) I left a Guard technician job and ended up selling leave back. So I understand what you're doing.

Good Luck with it

Guard - He is on the 737-800. The last few classes have had the 737-800 go to the senior folks in the class.

G. Dude's idea of asking the new hire coordinator makes good sense.

What was the breakdown of assignments available in the past few classes?

I've never understood the airline interviews that make guys feel like they have to know this crap to get in. I'm typed in 737,757,767, and 777s and have never needed any of this crap in training or on the line. Heck, even as a B727 engineer I never needed that stuff. I guess I'm just a dumb pilot.

But your remarks about the interview were really good and I'm sure many here will appreciate you taking the time to give this info out. Congrats on the offer and welcome to civi flying. :) Enjoy Delta. You guys always treat me well on the jumpseat.

Does DAL have any kind of preference for ASA guys, or could it possibly be that ASA guys might have more chance to network with DAL guys? (maybe since they probably jumpseat on each others' planes a lot, etc.)
