Engines have been left running at gate and crew left, Ignition left going all night, etc

No kidding - talk about going backwards - we used to trust the FO to run the shutdown checklist.

Not a north guy, but it's simple... dual verification of those items. Really the biggest thing would be that the systems are powered down and the engines are verified off. I could see just the engines being a dual response.

The next step apparently was the entire list. I'd rather have 2 eyes make sure everything is off.

For 73n: Is pride really so much an issue that we can't dual verify everything is off? Who cares? I'd rather take the safest route.

as a 88 hired guy (I hate to separate N/S)... I can honestly say I like this way better..... I have heard "DAL S" has also had issues with engines running at the gate.

If not oil something else will pop up - it always does:

9-11
War
SARS
Oil
Housing bubble

but Im thinking something new for this year, possibly something among the following:

Killer sunspots
Global warming
9.0 Earthquake centered on ATL
Anything to do with Muslim extremeists and shoes
Gamma rays
H2/N5 virus
Airplane parts from China with excessive levels of lead

Oh well, we will know soon enough.

Scoop :)
It will be the New Madrid fault that pops, Mississippi River starts flowing backwards, Minneapolis floods, Memphis falls into the gaping hole in the earth, and Atlanta topples to the ground. Cincinnati is made into a 777, A-330, 767-400 base. Well, it was worth a shot....

IIRC, the Captain had to respond to all checklists at DAL-N.

Maybe its so they can use it against us on the CVR

Any rumors about a BOS base? There's a new terminal, hangar, crew room, and it's a former DAL/NWA base.

ACL65,

What happened to the rumor about the extra 744s? I thought we were going to use the 787 delay to get used 744s? Didn't the board say yes to some, up to 25 total maybe? I thought 4 more were approved to come from the AZ desert? I read that RA wanted the cash instead. Anything else going on?

Bill

This question comes up every time there is a meeting with Flt Ops management. At the last one I was at, the response was: all the hotel rooms are cheaper than a base. No BOS base in the foreseeable future.

I'm not ACL, but I play one on TV! hahaha.. anyway - someone posted here that the company was expecting around $100 million from Boeing to cover the delays in the 787 program.

That's only about a half the cost of a new B747-8i (they don't built the -400 anymore). Or maybe one used B747-400 with some life left. (just a semi-educated guess).
