What happened to the rumor about the extra 744s? I thought we were going to use the 787 delay to get used 744s? Didn't the board say yes to some, up to 25 total maybe? I thought 4 more were approved to come from the AZ desert? I read that RA wanted the cash instead. Anything else going on?

Bill

for now we just want the cash payment from boeing...

Who cares? I'd rather take the safest route.

Fair enough. It just seems like a bit of overkill.
I can see the fuel levers being dual response I suppose, but half the time when we're running that checklist the other items aren't really in their "final shutdown" configuration because the APU and a fuel pump and the packs are still running, the external power isn't there yet or whatever.
"Set for now" is my standard response, which seems to encourage left seat complacency about the whole checklist.

I agree... I think the best compromise would be for the fuel control switches/levers/pulleys/hamster wheels should be duel verified.... but that's it.

Nothing more dangerous than leaving the beacon on....

While we're on checklist and procedures trivia:
I get "Brakes set, pressure normal" but I still can't grasp the logic of "Brakes set for chock removal".
How do you remove a stuck chock with the brakes set?

The tug driver will inform you that the a/c will need to be pulled a little forward in order to remove a stuck chock.

I get the general idea of it... you want the brakes set to keep the plane from rolling away. However more often than not the plane has settled onto the chocks which requires brakes to be released for removal. I've actually noticed the chocks being more loosely placed in recent times, possibly due to rampers' frustrations with the new procedure.

Like you, I'm fine with brakes set, pressure normal.. that's logical. The whole set for chock removal thing doesnt make much sense and is only applicable about 40% of the time.

Normally the chocks aren't stuck. When they are, they tell you. Then you release the breaks. :)

So share the deets!

Not much to really share. The good intel came from Clamp and Flyguy. It was more of a presentation as to where we were (industry wise) and that we need to be able to change and adapt to a new playing field with regard to contract negotiations. We are done giving up! It is now the job of the company to find the revenue. We (the Delta Pilots) need to have a profitable company and we are must have the long term vision for continued success.

Pretty tame, I was waiting for some chairs to get thrown and foul language but everyone was civil.

Boeing is being stubborn. It may cost them if they do not pay up.....(future a/c order and maybe the 787 order) They really do not seem to be up to negotiating in good faith with us. I beleive they were one of the few creditors we may whole in Ch11 to boot!

I'm not even going to begin to debate the merits of the outstanding grievances here. That's up to the MEC proper. Regardless of merit, of which I'm not commenting either way, they deserve to be resolved by due process. If the shoe was on the other foot you would demand no less.

Maybe the question comes down to a matter of cost. It seems that alfa's quotation of the contract was pretty clear, and that the due process you seek might be a waste of time, effort and money. So maybe if you feel so strongly about this grievance.. -which in my cursory and albeit limited examination- has little merit.. the parties that stand to benefit should fund the litigation. Personally I am not into frivolity.. especially if it costs a lot... and lawyers are expensive.
