5 days and counting....Far from home but SWEET for the bank account!!

Let's hope the company will be understanding of the dilemma and works to find an acceptable resolution above and beyond for this definitely "beyond" scenario.

You can use the hotel laundry, though expensive and get reimbursed per Section 5 of the PWA:

F. Laundry Expenses
Laundry expenses for a pilot will be reimbursed as follows:
1. A domestic category pilot is not entitled to laundry expense reimbursement.
2. An international category pilot who is engaged in international operations is eligible for
reimbursement for laundry expenses incurred at a layover city if his rotation contains an
ocean crossing and has a time away from base (TAFB) of 96 hours or more:
a. a receipt is required, which must be submitted through the electronic expense form,
and
b. the maximum reimbursement is $50.00.

<----in honor of management's newest reason why we lost money this year!

If the other one goes, it will get real special.

Compare your message to the one from APA...

You're worried about getting reimbursed for laundry (which is understandable). Look at Friday's message from APA to their pilots...
APA INFORMATION HOTLINE
This is APA Communications Committee member First Officer Scott Shankland with the APA Information Hotline for Friday, April 16.

AMERICAN AIRLINES MANAGEMENT—NO PAY PROTECTION FOR FLIGHTS CANCELED DUE TO VOLCANO: The APA Negotiating Committee approached management to determine whether affected pilots would be provided pay protection due to the large number of north Atlantic flights canceled because of the recent volcanic eruptions in Iceland. The volcanic activity has resulted in an unprecedented peacetime airspace closure across much of Britain and northern and central Europe.

Management responded that they do not plan to offer any pay protection. Their decision will cost many of our pilots a meaningful portion of their monthly compensation.
Of course, APA is tough, the DAL PWA sucks, and DALPA is management's "lapdog," at least on our forum!

Nice find slowplay.

Are our pilots pay-protected?

acl65pilot 04-18-2010 02:21 PM

Yes, for their rotation guarantee. Reserves on the other had are not, but if they are stuck their credit time will go up each day they are over there.

Not mutually exclusive - the limiting to $50 for direct bill laundry expenses is a violation of the PWA - we either enforce the contract or don't and live with the inevitable consequences.

As to pay protection is there any word one way or another that we are pay protected per 4.E and/or 23.K or is management waiving the FM flag?

Are pilots stuck getting an extra 5:15 a day?

Rumor is they are pulling FM on the F/A's for canceled rotations to the EU :(

Its nice to have union representation, WRT FA's dilemma.

Their contract doesn't have pay protection for changes to rotations. (i.e. if the company cancels a turn in the middle of a rotation they lose the pay for it.)
