I bet you do since to you sit SC in the lounge.

I have gotten to know the blue chairs quite well. My favorite game: taking the over/under on how many "breaking news alert" reports come across Fox News each hour.

Just as a reminder, you can request SC if you want. You can try to group multiple ones back to back to back.

I had a request in and didn't get it. Apparently they like to do the opposite of what you want.

In direct response to your suggestion. As you posted, the credit would go towards the 70 hrs of reserve pay and the hr of pay would go above 70 correct?

Yep. I think each SC should be paid out at 1 hr each in addition to whatever your credit or guarantee ends up being, but it would be acceptable to just increase the guarantee by 1 hr for each SC.

Of course change the guarantee to 75 hours and that would also work but I kind of like the idea of getting paid for the SCs.

As others have stated if you want SC you should be able to bid for it. If SCs paid 1 hr there would be plenty of people trying to get SC and for those that want to stay on LC you would be more likely to get it.

I also agree with your statement that once a RES pilot is assigned a trip they should be protected against cancellation. And while were on the subject, Leg-by-Leg cancellation is a must in the next PWA. The lack of this has cost me 4+ hours in the last two months.

Just to complicate the issue, how about this... take the difference between ALV and 70 hours, divide it by six, and increase the reserve guarantee by that result each time you get a short call, so if you get six you're paid the ALV.

Run Over by a Train

Interesting article in the 19 April Aviation week on China's rail system. The article suggest that airline growth will slump as the fast lines are opened between now and 2020. Looks like China Southern and China Eastern are in the cross hairs.

Yes, they want the MD-90's and if they need to retro fit all of them to make that happen, it may be the price we pay. I bet they would sign off on the 717 being differences training! :D
Makes merging with Hawaiian a breeze.

I have been told by my buds in SEA that Mexicana may want to return the 717 as well. That is just a rumor for the fun of it. Not sure how much traction that one really has.

We didn't talk about retrofitting. Just that, as is, the FAA wants those birds as a separate category, ala ER vs 400. Whether it would be differences training or a whole new course, don't know. Having jumped on a Citrus 717 the other day, there's a lot that's the same but a lot that's very different, too.

Up, I know, and I am talking about putting the rest of the 90's in that new category. 25 would create the same issues that the 90 fleet has faced until they opted to expand it.

VPR, I agree. Leg by leg, not by trip. It has cost me a lot in the past too.

I don't think the problem is people trying to avoid short calls. The problem is scheduling giving them out on the first and last days on reserve with disregard to the pilots who actually want it.. Personally, I cannot sit at home on long call. If I get long call my first day, I can sit at home until the last flight of the day on my first day on (it's never happened). My first flight of the day arrives at about 11 am. Once I'm in base, I request short call every single day usually to no avail. It's frustrating. I usually hope for a short call of 9 am or later my first day. It rarely happens. Last week I was given a short call my first day of 0830 am. I feel like they're always out to get me even though I know they're not. I say make short call your first day on optional.
