Wow, I've been gone a few days and am trying to catch up. Just wanted to add a couple of things to the conversations on here.
1. Re: Saudi MD90s Flew with the lead 88 check airman and was told that because of the MD11-style cockpits, the FAA would only approve the Saudi MD90s as a completely separate category. So those planes are still up in the air as the company tries to figure out if that's feasible to do or not. 2. Re: SC How about a system where you bid either a LC or SC line for the entire month. LC would be still be 18 days but SC would be 14 days (that way you'd get extra "credit" for sitting SC). I'm a commuter and while I have no problem sitting SC (I don't like it but it's part of my job), what I don't like is not knowing when or how often I have to sit it. At least this way, I'd have some way of knowing what my month will look like. |

Sure - we'll give you a hotel... within 2 hours of EWR, LGA or JFK.. and we pick. Oh, it doesn't have to be the same hotel each time either. Night 1 - hotel in Yonkers, NY. Night two.. somewhere in NJ along the turnpike.. you get my drift. We'd all have to get a car to sit reserve... |

Yes, they want the MD-90's and if they need to retro fit all of them to make that happen, it may be the price we pay. I bet they would sign off on the 717 being differences training! :D Makes merging with Hawaiian a breeze. I have been told by my buds in SEA that Mexicana may want to return the 717 as well. That is just a rumor for the fun of it. Not sure how much traction that one really has. |
Quick question guys/gals. I have vacation next month and want to pick up a trip in open time. I put in a white slip for it and it was denied. What's the trick? I should add that the trip is during my week of vacation.

You cannot add a trip during your vacation. No WS, YS, GS. You are off.
If you were denied what is the reason? Did you submit the pickup on the rules qualifier? Are you legal? If so, did someone senior to you pick up the trip? |

No it is the reason I stated above. I have SC tomorrow, but to get out of it, I Yellow Slip a trip today. That cuts down on their allowable SC pilots by me gaming the system. If we bid for SC's you will be seeing six a month whereas currently the average reservist is seeing about 2.5 per month.

As for the rest, it has been hashed and rehashed. Tell your reps what you want, and make sure it is addressed. Things like what you suggest could be fixed now via LOA. They will not be fixed like you expect them too, but they will be addressed. I cannot for the life of me see them penalizing non-commuters. They may just roll the window following an X day back to 1200 or something like that. If they want you on SC, they get you on SC. I would like to see some of the randomness taken out of it as well. I do not mind SC, and am one of the few that is willing to pull more of it so the commuters can stay at home. |

I think we have to fix how short call is assigned - it seems way too random - the whole RAW score thing is a black box that no one seems to be able to explain. There must be a way to come up with a more rational system so you know what might happen to you on a particular day (whether you're a commuter or not). Also, I have always thought that our reserve system is way too unfair -especially on reserve when we are busy it seems like a reservist never fills up and is either working or on call all of his 18/19 days/month. Even though I have a line right now I could easily be back on reserve again - let's fix it or at least make it better.

I agree 100%. I sit reserve and will until I decide to move and commute. I like the way you think T.
How about SC are pay no credit from the get go. :D I do like your idea that we could bid for three, or lets say two, and then the rest are pay no credit. That said, what will the credit be since you are technically still getting paid for that reserve day. This would be assigned as premium pay. I am sure they will want airport standby for this...... |

Skywest paid guys for breaking guarantee. Lets say you sat 20 days of reserve but flew only 15 days. In those 15 days of flying you accrued only 69.99 hours of credit. You would be paid your 70 hour guarantee for the month.
Now lets say you actually got 70.01 hours of credit in those 15 days of flying. You would now get the 70.01 hours of credit PLUS you sat 5 more days of reserve. I had 5 days where I sat reserve and didn't get called. I got the 4 minutes on the last leg of the month. By breaking guarantee I turned 70 hours of pay into 93ish!!!! (also had some other credit......think I picked up a trip on a day off) I think Skyw had a 75 hour guarantee as well.....can't remember. I like your idea of getting pay credit for short call. I'd also like to add getting pay credit for days sitting reserve if we break guarantee. |
