Speaking about short call, how come when I ask for it I never get it, but I always get it on the first day of my reserve days. Since I CHOOSE to commute I have to be here a day prior... Short call must be fixed! P.s. I am already in the least desired category in the company, bidding a different aircraft was not going to get me off reserve.

That is how they roll. If you have days off, the next time you are on is short call, every time.

It seems like this is an F.Y. to commuters. I can see no other reason that the first day should be SC, every time. Inspite of the amount of days on.

If I had my druthers, SC would be like golden X days, we would get to choose.

A simple no short call on the first day would solve a lot of reserve woes. But bidding for SC would also be a good idea. If I lived in NY reserve would be the cat's meow! Only 5 1/2 years to go...

They do that to get your lazy @$$ in to base. If forces you to commute in. LC the next day and then SC the day after.

As for the rest, it has been hashed and rehashed. Tell your reps what you want, and make sure it is addressed. Things like what you suggest could be fixed now via LOA. They will not be fixed like you expect them too, but they will be addressed.
I cannot for the life of me see them penalizing non-commuters. They may just roll the window following an X day back to 1200 or something like that. If they want you on SC, they get you on SC.
I would like to see some of the randomness taken out of it as well. I do not mind SC, and am one of the few that is willing to pull more of it so the commuters can stay at home.

They cannot have you bid for SC. It is dynamic. Lets say you bid for SC for tomorrow but get a trip today. No one for SC tomorrow.

The only way around that is the system of LC and SC lines. Many would not like that.

Yeah, I don't like that idea. Some rules in SC assigning would be better. It would at least give you a heads up to the chances of you getting SC.

Interesting conversation this morning about SC with a scheduler. Seems they are basing who gets it on how many times they have done it. In other words, I was told you already have 3 and yesterday I only assigned up to guys with 2. Maybe there really is a method to their madness.

acl65pilot 04-21-2010 04:43 AM

Dragon, as with most things, each scheduler has their own method. Really, it is not a department policy on how they assign it. Some do as you say, others do it by seniority, others just assign it by bypassing the first two or three than all of the four day guys or on international categories all of the five day plus guys.

Point is there is no set method in which to derive expectations from.

She was able to get one Spain trip, but she was not able to hold the 6 day trips that she wanted. The rest of the 90 hour line was domestic junk. I am still assuming that the increase in flying can only come from one area. Since DAL cut back widebody time and shifted more flying to the narrow bodies, this increase must be coming from more widebody flying. Since we don't have many new aircraft arriving, that's all I can think of. Having just said that, maybe some of those MD-90's are heading our way.
