The trip is confusing (to me) because the printed roatation showed A thru I for departure day and I didn't check the arrival time to see if it actually arrives on Day I or Day J. Just wasn't what I'm used to seeing. I was trying to back to back some short trips by just looking at the bid packages vs. the PBS Desktop which has a Trip Length column. UGH can't get the patterns to format correctly in here for posting. After browsing some patterns too quickly I thought it was a 3 day trip (it had A B C in the Day column). Yes, I knew it landed on day 4 and I've flown Asia for so long I should have known better, but I didn't catch it until later in my bid process. For some reason I was expecting a D in the DAY column. It's just something I have to get used to seeing. The patts with end of rotation deadheads had a D in the DAY column (because the DH flight left on that calendar day). I usually bid one long trip and don't look at that stuff, but was helping another pilot bid for July because he has not flown in 8 months. Glad I didn't do this in December around xmas. |

I think they are talking about the three or four guys at CPS that had NWA system seniority numbers. I would not state with certainty if they were on bypass, but there has been talk of those three or four wanting to return to their position here at DAL.
Maybe they will flow or recall at the same time. Regarding the attitude thing. This has actually been talked about fairly extensively by CPS pilots in our private forum, and I've had discussions about it on the line and in the schoolhouse. Most are aware of what a tremendous opportunity we're being given here, and how important it is for each and every flowthrough to come in with a great attitude, not act entitled, and work as hard in training as if we'd gone through the DL interview process. That said, most of us are pretty wary about the company (CP and DL) honoring the process in the CBA, simply because our company so regularly tries to violate other sections of it, and because we are well aware of the history of regional-major flows. The fact that our company is planning on holding every pilot back from DL for 90 days past their flow date, just because they can, rubs a lot of us the wrong way; it's getting things off on the wrong foot. Remember, we've all been living with the threat of a flow down for two years. I personally thought I'd be out of a job by now, and arranged my finances accordingly. It's like my life has been on pause. Given that, I'd really like to see the flow up work as advertised. When/If I get to Delta, my attitude will be that of gratitude for a tremendous opportunity and determination to work hard and fit in with the DL pilot group. In the meantime, my attitude will be "The company had better do what is in the contract." |

It is a great deal, but one that is in both PWA's. Even if they do hold ou back 90 days you get your system number on the day they planned to have you flow. I recently read all of the LOA's and this seems to be fairly well spelled out. It is simple prove the stereo type wrong, be happy to be here, and you will love the job. It really is a blast working at DAL. Those were the pilots I was referring to. I was not aware of any others. Also, from what I understand, there are a few Mesaba pilots that have DAL system number that will be over here first. |
<<Also..I read on the "Other" forum that the first class is on Aug 8th. Anyone?>>

Yep...we'll actually spend 3 months at higher CPS CA pay vs DL 1st year pay, all while accruing longevity and seniority at DL. That part's not a bad deal. It's a bad deal for our junior Captains spending three more months on reserve, or for the perspective upgrade spending three more months on FO pay. It may also result in fewer flowthroughs if DL holds larger classes than normal in the knowledge that CPS flowthroughs won't actually be showing up for class for 90 days...so if DL does 3 months of hiring at 80/mo vice 4 months at 60/mo, that's 60 flowthroughs instead of 80. It's not an insignificant difference to me because I'm going to be right around #80! :o

Jungle bus and others. I will flow in the 2nd month of eligable cpz flow thru's. My beef with being held back is as I understand it, there are currently openings in msp. Msp would be my first choice. Being held back for 90 days would allow all those brought into class ahead of the hold backs first choice atg domicle and equipement. Given the choice of the md 80 in msp vs. Jfk I would imagine most new hires would take msp for a number of reasons. Now after the 90 days of my a$$ being held back to continue to support a unprepared cpz operation, I will maybe in a special class for cpz holdbacks but our available base and equipement choices will be a what's left.... after people hired after me have had a choice. In theory I may have to commute to jfk for a extended period of time. This is what bothers me. Is compass and delta going to provide me a phantom bid on domicle and equipement or as I understand it now I won't have any control of my destination until offically in class eith all the other holdbacks? This could potentially cost me thousands in commuter expenses.

I really don't think that will be a problem. Typically the new hires are spread around each base in each class. When I was hired, they had a mix of bases and aircraft. The plug on each class was the one with no choice. Also, as a new-hire you do not have a seat lock. |
