I guess the one hour earlier is really going to save their butts.:mad:

So wrong. At least we got this. "Crew Scheduling will make every reasonable effort to schedule multiple consecutive short call periods if a pilot requests them." How considerate.

A question for fellow short-call warriors, I was assigned an 0530 short call for this past Friday at the 1500 sched check on thursday, jumped in the car to commute and had a trip on my line by the time I got to DTW for a friday 1430ish report. Never got a phone call or "enter password to acknowledge" in icrew, just a trip showed up on my line with "BUY" next to it. I showed up to fly, of course, but I'm trying to figure out if I was ever really "notified" like I was supposed to be. Also, what does "BUY" mean on the sched?

This seems to happen more frequently these days. You should have seen the trip acknowledgement box when you checked your sked. Not sure how that happens but I have seen it before myself. The fact that you got no call is normal when they have put you on SC to start well before the trip. Certainly not perfect and should be done differently, but your recourse is to call skeds and ask why. Some schedulers will do this with the plan to notify you after your SC has started. Guess they will stop this practice if we ignore the trip that hasn't been acknowledged.

I apologize about the scab post. I talked to someone. I was told that one former Delta pilot was telling the other Falcon pilots that he would fly a plane to a Spirit station, but not fly struck work, and another former Delta pilot didn't care if he flew struck work or not. I get a little emotional and post things I shouldn't. I'll take down my posts as soon as I figure out how. I assumed that one of these pilots was one of the scab pilots. My fault.

With the 0530 SC, were you legal to fly the trip? ie - did you block in before 2100?

Not sure about BUY. Normally they will "buy" trips for instructors or guys who are getting close on landing currency. Was that the case for you? Did you call and ask what was going on?

Highly unusual (in fact, unheard of) for a trip to be placed on anyone's sked without any acknowledgement. (either the computer pop-up or by telephone). Did you have a period (.) preceding the trip number on your schedule? That's their code for a trip having been acknowledged.

Something weird going on.

I tried to call scheduling, but after being on hold for 20 minutes I gave up. Yeah, I was legal for the trip, just one leg on the first day. Last landing was late in May, so no issue there. The (.) period is there.

I'm kind of new to this, first full month after requal complete following a very long mil leave, so just trying to figure this stuff out. I did get the computer pop-up for the short-call, so I know what that looks like, but never did get one for the trip assignment, and no phone calls to my home or cell. I obviously looked at the rotation in iCrew, so they can tell that I did that, but no acknowlegement.

nwaf16dude 06-13-2010 10:44 AM

One more question...can you look anywhere in iCrew to confirm that you got credit for short call after the fact? I was just looking at that, and can't find any evidence that I was ever on short call.

Is the 0530 SC still on your sked? Does it have the period(.)? If its not, then you didn't get credit for SC.

Even if you look at a trip on short call, they still have to call you if you don't acknowledge it. They're lucky you showed up.

Sounds to me like they thought you had acknowledged. ??
Otherwise they would have called.

nwaf16dude 06-13-2010 10:59 AM

Nope...no SC on my schedule. Sounds like I need to talk to scheduling. I'll tuck that one in the lessons learned bag.

You need to call them & make sure you get credit for the SC. If the report was after SC began then you still sat SC, & receive credit for that.

Don't duty pilots have to buy one trip a month? Maybe it was a duty pilot?

Plus, why wouldn't he be legal for the trip? SC isn't duty, right? I thought they just had to be able to look back 24 hours & find rest.
